Dark siding or light?

We are completely changing the exterior of our house - roof, siding, staining or painting the brick, walkway, driveway, front door and landscaping. I’m looking two different styles and would appreciate opinions! Including my house too. Thanks!

IMO painting or otherewise hiding the brick is the fastest way to devalue your home This is my fave for siding with brick , a new front door that suits the huse and no shutters would all help in the curb appeal Your house is not either style of house in the inspiration pics so not really good for trying to replicate. All the windows should match ans what is in the windows on the 2nd floor it looks like black plastic bags Landscping will definately be an inprovement too

Thanks, yes, will be painting windows white, both same color. Totally get what you’re saying about the brick. Unfortunately a previous remodel left us with two completely different color bricks. The garage is salmon in color and reads orange. The rest of the house is red Chicago brick style which I like. I’m told we can stain but trying to match is tough.

I dislike those cookie cutter looking houses in your pictures. Regarding the different brick colors I would just put siding over your garage brick and paint the siding on the second story and remove the shutters. I like Patricia's picture with a grey-green color.

You might want to check into the roofing first, as the colors there will be limited and will have a big influence on the other colors you add via paint or stain. Romabio can color match masonry stain to paint colors. What part of the two houses you posted are you referencing? I assume it is the front door, since neither house relates to yours in any way.

This is what I saved in my dream board for a pretty house exterior :)

I dont think its bad at all, just screams look at my garage and look at my chimney! but the siding isnt the right type (should be wider 8 inches or more) and the shutters are too small, and i would look into removing the gable vents. for the roof i would choose a color in the brick (brown or dark brown) and a cream siding. Or i like patricias option. dont paint or treat the brick on the chimney and maybe cover the garage with the siding you choose. Painting brick is continuous maintenance forever, irreversible, and prevents the brick from breathing, dates the house to 2022, etc.

To achieve something similar to the look of your dream exterior, remove the brick down to the level of the panels under the windows. Do it everywhere and then have a ledge or top piece (not sure of the architectural term) installed on the top of the brick. Use a lime wash or paint from Romabio to change all the remaining brick and chimney to a light shade like your dream home. Some of the bricks might be salvaged to replace the siding panels under the windows. Go for a gray roof, white trim (no shutters) and shakes in the garage gable and the gable above the two second story windows. Remove shutters and install new siding. To add more white and get a similar feeling as the dream home, you may want to beef up the white window trim and do all of the entrance area in white. You could paint the shake gables white to look more like the dream home with all its white trim. It looks like their garage door is a shade or so darker than the body of the house, but you can probably match it to your siding color. Here's a nice blue from James Hardie. I would prefer a smooth surface rather than this faux wood look.
