I am not a fan of words as art, but if you like it then go with something smaller. It should not be wider than the chair and table. The cabinet, to be useful to the chair, should arrive 1" above or below the chair arms. It is a display cabinet and the view of its collected contents is blocked by the chair. Here is my own rule of thumb for hanging: 5-5-75. Hang art 5" above furniture or center it alone 5' above the floor. It should not be wider than 75% of the width of the furniture under it or the wall behind it if hanging alone.

Nothing in the corner. It would be crowded there. If it was me I would return sign and get a wall art.

It's a mix of styles, too much going on in such a small area.

a photo of the whole area would help, with observations.

is that a mantle to the right with the cotton plant?

a floor lamp in the corner would help to illuminate the dead space.

are the candles just for show, or do you light them on that unit?

I believe word decor is best suited for a mudroom or family room.

One of the main issues is the scale of the chair and cabinet - the cabinet is too tall for the chair, and the squareness of the cabinet does not complement the shape of the chair. Do you have a shorter, small round side table you could use to test a new layout? If so, angle the chair a bit in the corner, and put the table to the right of the chair. Or, even better, angle the chair on the carpet near the dried plant, so that it will become part of what appears to be the main conversation area of the room?

I love the sentiment! But I think there are a lot of shapes fighting for the eye here - the words look like the paisley and the circles in the cabinet look like the words! If you wanted the word art, I might think about hanging it above more solid-colored furnishings - or, keep that paisley (it's a cute chair!) and go with some more chromatic art above it (a landscape would be nice!).

Lots of good advice already here. The picture is too wide for that space.

I'd first find a better arrangement of furniture. The chair, sitting right at the corner, is uninviting. Although it's a lovely chair. I'd put the chair angled at the corner and put the table where the chair is now.

Thank you all - here is more picture showing the angled places in my home that make it difficult to arrange things

    Does this look better?

Actual art no work art and IMO if you really love that put it in the kitchen or entry not there and ditch the pillows too. A home is a place where you are the one that makes it a home no work art is going to make it so. You have work art everywhere I can see stop get a piece of art you love and keep it simple with pillows in color from the new art and BTW the art needs to be hung where the center is at eye level A nice lamp on that table by the chair will be a great choice since candles are not .

I also second the no more word art. Can you move the chair more into the space rather than against the wall? Will it work better at the other end of the sofa? Then you could use the wall for your cabinet.

Hi, Jules, what is on this side of the room?

Just wondering if the chair could be moved there (or is there something I’m not seeing).

I like the neutral chair better! But looking at the overall room layout, I think I get the problem you're facing - there's not QUITE enough room for an arrangement of chairs and sofa in front of the fireplace, so you're ending up putting a chair against the wall. The problem is that it ends up being a really spread-out living room setup, and also ends up blocking flow into the bedroom.

I wonder if you had a smaller coffee table (or, stick with me, no coffee table at all, just some side tables), whether you could fit everything more comfortably onto that area rug. That would make the living room layout more coherent and you could keep that wall just for some art or (brainstorm) some really shallow shelving.

Absolutely the wrong location for the chair.

You can leave the chest on the wall & add a plant in the corner

Not sure the sofa is even positioned correctly in this room. Can we see the total room and give you some suggestions?
