Someone actually designed a staircase to go into a pole??? What is your budget?

It depends. There's probably a concrete footing below the column, and there should be footings located wherever you want to move columns, which involves either going through the slab, or incorporating into the landing. You'd have to remove the covering on the beam to see what the beam consists of and if it's continuous (like maybe an LVL) or spliced 2x framing. That would affect where you can place columns and how many. You'd have to get a structural engineer, an architect or possibly a good contractor to verify that.
