Cabinets cost estimates

We are planning to update the cabinets in our kitchen and vanities in 2 bathrooms. So far through online estimates we are getting quotes in 50-60k range from semi-custom cabinet providers (mid to high end as per the cabinet makers) for painted cabinets and vanities. Plywood boxes with shaker style HDF fronts. All soft-close, about 10 rollouts in the kitchen. Installation charges extra. Does that sound reasonable? Thanks!

Thanks Rhonda. My concern is that we are going with painted fronts so solid wood might show paint cracks over time? The one custom cabinets estimate I got was around 80k. Not sure if that cost was worth the premium given that these semi-custom ones all pretty much are made to order with our choice of hardware, paints, width, depth, height all customizable, as long as they are rectangular shaped boxes :)

Impossible to tell without knowing how many cabinets...and what height? How many drawers? Any special inserts?

About 34 cabinets. Base cabinets have 34 inch height and upper cabinets 49 height. No special inserts as of yet. About 10 drawers in addition to the 10 pullouts. The vanities are both double sink and have 3 drawers each.

That's approximately $1500 per cabinet. Sounds pretty expensive to me. What kind of details are you ordering? Details can really affect the price.

Not much in terms of detailing. They do have blum hardware, but otherwise just shaker cabinets with different 2-3 different paint colors.

That per cabinet average seems about right to me. 2 years ago we were quoted ~$1200 for a basic 39” vanity, from a semi custom line. Not including vanity top or install. The price would have increased since then no doubt. i dont have a more current quote yet (supposed to get that soon), but we were told to expect around $35k for 15 cabinets.

Considering where the cost is coming from:

    - Paint is more expensive than stain.

    - Multiple paint colors will add some cost (but not much).

    - You don't say whether you're getting inset, partial overlay or full overlay -- but inset is more expensive.

    - Any glass fronts? They'll add cost.

    - Islands are more expensive than standard cabinets because they must be finished on four sides.

These are frameless cabinets; we haven't chosen glass fronts so far. Knowing that they are more expensive, we will keep them out :) We do not have island cabinets but do have full length pantry cabinets (approx 48" wide and 100" height). I had counted the individual cabinets from the pantry in my count of 34 cabinets, but probably that is not accurate for purpose of cost estimates.

why do you want 49 in high wall cabinets?

That's a lot of cabinets, the uppers are tall and the pantry is huge. That price sounds about right to me. Well, not right, hahaha, but normal.

Trims and moldings add a lot, too!

Basically go up to the ceiling so cabinets tops are not exposed as dust collectors :) We also like to keep the non daily used glassware in top shelves of the cabinet.

    Sounds too cheap.

How could we possibly know any of this to guess what the cabinets are , why custom at all and the layout of the space . That is a lot of cabinets and so I need to see a to scale layout to even begin to guess if that is a lot of money. BTW there is no advantage to going plywood boxes with MDF doors . I have done many Ikea kitchens for a heck of a lot less that 60K that look fabulous and can be done to look custom. IMO there is no such thing as semi custom BTW so you are either going custom or not. IMO you shoud be using a Lan independant KD who has access to more than one place to get cabinets. What do you mean by pullouts and BTW Ikea does all sof close doors and drawers for a very small upcharge .

Thanks. I was just looking to get a sense of whether the ballpark numbers make sense. We do know of the option of going Ikea with custom fronts as well

I visited a kitchen and bath showroom last week and one vanity cost 5,900 without customization. The number you were given sounds fair based on the scope of the project.
