I love the yellow that is there. But I also love mint which your house can totally pull off. A paler yellow won't be as nice because you could lose the contrast with the white which is part of the charm of the place.

Yellow would be safest in terms of not being obvious if a bit peels. (My house used to be avocado green apparently!)

Not a bad idea. They look really good together! Unfortunately the previous owner painted it several years ago, so I don't have the name of the current yellow. I have a few samples from BM, but they're all bring in comparison. I'll have to go back for more samples if I settle on yellow.

Paint a BIG sample to test out your color. Not just a sheet of paper size.

Here are some yellows which are more or less saturated than your current yellow. Hawthorne Yellow is very popular.

For the door:

I am not keen on yellow or mint. But pale yellow would look good. Try Grecian Ivory SW

and coordinating colors

or Pale Oak BM. It would make your white trim pop up.

I'm adding "traditional yellow" and "hawthorne" to my sample list. @celery, pale oak is nice, but it looks like my neighbor's color.

sunny, you likely already know colors can really lighten up on the exterior. We just went through this with our exterior. I had several cans of sample colors along with swatches from samplize.com. Very helpful!

May I give a suggestion for the gable portico? I think it would look so much better if it was done in some cedar shake/shingles, or any of these other accents

wood gable, the composite shingles to match the siding color, and paint the underside of the porch a nice Haint blue

Beth, I like your landscaping ideas. Yes, the portico can be improved. When things die down, my intent was to add a porch. The siding is asbestos unfortunately, and I'd love to replace it with hardiplank when things die down. It just really needs painting right now (it's hard to tell from these photos but the trim is peeling). I really love the fuscia(?) door!

Your house is so cute!! If it was just painted a few years ago, why not just paint the front door one of those wonderful shades of green or blue and live with it a bit? I’m not a fan of the white shutters. I would put $$ into refreshing the landscaping. Unless you have the budget to do both paint and landscaping. Oh, and a full glass storm door would be nicer than the one you have, especially if you paint the front door.

@ShadyWillowFarm, I was wondering when someone would comment in the shutters! Should it contrast with the trim? Although yellow, green and blue pastels are in my neighborhood, we are in Maryland (not Key West), lol! It doesn't look like it from the pictures, but the house really needs painting (especially the trim). It's peeling all over the back porch.

The example from Beverly is nice. Much better than a mint green. Good suggestion from ShadyWillowFarm regarding the full glass storm door.

I had a cottage with asbestos siding. Could not afford the complication of regulations on removing it, but I found that Home Depot could special order replica cement siding to replace the few damaged or missing pieces. If you have damage you might do that as a less expensive alternative. Removing asbestos may cost you more than you want to expend on this little home.

Decoenthusiaste - yes, neighbors have told me it's expensive and cumbersome to remove. They recommended putting vinyl over it, but I hate vinyl! I also wonder if hardiplank could be put on top. Thanks for letting me know about this other option. Housing has always been very competitive in my area and renovations are very expensive these days.

Your house is adorable! Please paint it an interesting color (i.e., not gray). I love the yellow/mint combo.

UPDATE: I picked up a peel and stick sample of BM Hawthorne yellow today. It is darker than my current color. Weston Flax is the color one step lighter on the same card. It's very close to my current color. I picked up some fuschia samples for the door, but I'll need more time to settle on that.

I can't see spending a money on changing from yellow to another yellow. It looks fine the it is.

If you are keeping door, I would keep the door white.

It's being painted for practical reasons. The paint is peeling off. I must repaint it.
