What stain looks best on Pine?

Hey everyone. We bought a home from the 1970s. I have pine ceiling beams and fire place mantle that my husband is sanding which has been a job and re staining. Id like a darker rich brown stain, not black for a farmhouse vibe. What do you recommend? thinking minwax jacobean or dark walnut but open to any suggestions as ive been told stains look way different on pine and i dont want black.

Pine doesn't not take stain well. Usually you have to apply something first to the pine so that it's more receptive to stain.

Can we see the space where the ceiling is ? IMO staining pine dark does not make sense so I need context.

You didn't provide a picture so we don't know the height of the ceiling, but I would NEVER stain beams on an 8ft ceiling dark.

You're never going to get coverage with a stain on pine like you see below because the pine will simply not take the stain evenly.
