I buy a new coral bell every spring for a container or a window box. In mid September i plant it in the ground. Have never lost one (southeastern MA).

CBs are short lived plants .. imo.. find something better for long lasting pots.. or use them as annuals as mentioned above ...

imo.. heal them back in mother earth for winter... for your best shot at survival ...

I haven't had success overwintering in pots, but I have over wintered stuff like that in raised bed where I grow veggies in the Summer.

We need to know where you are located. 'Lake Region' could just as easily apply to a district in the UK.

In my climate, heucheras over winter in containers perfectly fine and I often use them to this purpose. What to use with them is a matter of personal choice. I will sometimes pick a color scheme and work off that. One container I planted a couple of years ago included a copper or root beer colored heuchera, a bronze sedge and a multicolored mirror plant, Coprosma. No focus on flowers but plenty of foliage color to make things interesting!! Come to think of it, I may have stuck a couple of pansies in there for late season flowers :-)

That would be the Lake District ... but there are still a lot of regions with lakes in the world....
