Late Post, Mother's Day

Lot's to catch up after a few weeks of travel. Anyway here are some pictures of what I did for Mother's Day.

dcarch

I was able to perfectly timed this from the garden for Mother's Day

Always enjoy Mother Nature's earliest gift, Hosta shoots, stir fried

And blanched hosta shoots, so tender

Made that into salad with asparagus from the garden also

Main dish was SV short ribs. No pictures. People kept tasting the dish while I was making it.

I hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day.

Dcarch I was thinking about you the other day and I'm very glad to see your post! Hope you had a wonderful trip!

That is a beautiful presentation of the food as usual! I wish I could come up with such artistry on a plate. I'm sure it tasted as scrumptious as it looks.

Happy Mother's Day to you as well!

Very nice, as always. Do you find certain hostas more tasty than others?

dcarch, I thought of you in recent days, too. We thoroughly enjoyed our young hosta shoots this spring, thanks to your inspiration in previous years.

Every time I see one of your posts featuring hosta shoots, it strikes me as really odd. But then, the Vietnamese eat dogs. Who am I to judge?

Thank you everyone for your nice comments!

I enjoy hostas because they are part of gardening landscape, they are also delicious and nutritious as a vegetable. They are the earliest in the spring to go into the kitchen, even before asparagus. Also, it's a good way to deal with food inflation.

tsugajunkie, I think all hostas taste the same, I basically only eat the plain looking kind.

floral_uk , My problem is I am overwhelmed by having tooooo many hostas. They are taking over my garden. The more I eat, the more they grow. Interesting, yes, I have slugs and snails in the garden, but they don't seem to be interested in hostas.

rhizo_1 (North AL) , Glad you are taking advantage of this wonderful nature's gift. I now even freeze some for use any time in the year.

I agree, "Who am I to judge", Hosta is a common vegetable for some countries, and many countries eat dogs including some Western countries in the past.

This all looks delicious! I've never had enough Hostas to even spare a leaf, so I've never had it... perhaps one day.

Wow, learn something new via this forum. Maybe someone can describe what hostas taste like.

Chicken…no, wait…that’s the rabbits that eat the hosta.

    djacobz568sewi, Thank you!

CA Kate z9, I now have 150 feet long boarder packed with hostas. The hostas have gotten so dense, they kill off all weeds which were there before.

Judy Good, Never heard of eating hosta's who knew?

Wait another few weeks, hosta scapes will come up, that's another great delicacy.

likestonehomes, Hosta shoots taste like a cross of asparagus and endive.

tsugajunkie, Chicken…no, wait…that’s the rabbits that eat the hosta.

Lucky. We don't seem to have rabbits or deer in our area.
