small master bedroom

Moving into a bedroom that is 11'4 x 11'4 with a king sized bed. This is the bed I am thinking about purchasing-what color curtains would you suggest and will the bed look okay with the wall color? The bed is 78 inches long. I will most likely push against the wall so what length curtains will I need?

I am selling my current bedroom set (dressers, nightstands, and bed frame) because they will not fit in the room. Any suggested closet storage systems?

Any recommendations for a small bedroom and a king bed would be appreciated. Thanks!

You are sort of asking three separate questions and I recommend starting three different posts or at least a separate post about the closet.

    Bed color

It is not just a matter of the bed and wall color - it is a matter of what other colors you put in the room with it all: bedding, pillows, floor covering, curtains. I think the bed is rather boring with the wall color, no contrast just a near match but kind of off. However, with some accent pillows, great bedding, a throw, it may look just fine. Plus, given the smaller size of the room, it is kind of nice to have everything blend together instead of having jarring pops of color.

    Curtains

Do you have blinds on the windows already? Will you get them? Do you want black out effect? How many windows do you have and what else will be on those walls? Your bedroom isn't tiny but will look so with a king size bed in it. For that reason, I think floor length curtains will be a lot of look. I'm not a fan of shorter curtains. I think I would go with nice roller shades, blinds, or roman shades instead of curtains.

    Floor

What's up with the floor? Is it concrete? What will you be covering it with?

    Closet

Start another post with you closet measurements and pics.

IMO keep this as one post since it is all one room. As for the rest is that oyur bedding/ Are you planning on painting the walls . Why on earth a king size bed shoved up against a wall. Is there no closet in the space ? Maybe a floor plan showing doorways and windows might help .

Floor plan-we are unit to the right. The door and the closet doors are making me think I'll need to push against a wall, as much as I don't want to. We can't move in until June 1st but I am expecting a baby any day now so just trying to get some furniture in asap. I'm clearly terrible at interior design and will take any help I can get!

Honestly, in such a small room I wouldn't be buying a king sized. It will eat up the whole room. A queen would look so much better and you will need room for a bassinet.

We own the mattress already. My husband and I would kill each other in a queen. The layout isn't ideal but it's where we have to live at this time.

Congratulations on the baby! It’s gonna be tight but I think the King can work ok for now. The baby in a bassinet or basket- if that’s something you’ll be doing - that’ll take some figuring out. I have a guest room only 6” or so bigger and have a King. I have tiny bedside tables on either side (like 10” wide). For a quick light, on one side I have no plug so I use a stick on push on / push off battery operated light. Not pretty but effective. I don’t have suggestions on closet as our room is used only for guests. Good luck to you!

Yall be nice. when you have kids a king sized bed is a must if you can fit it in the room. those kids find their way in from birth on up.

Thanks everyone. Where we live, the cheapest house you can buy is one million dollars. We were lucky enough to win an affordable housing lottery rental. I grew up on this island and feel fortunate that I will be able to raise my baby here. The space is much smaller than we'd like, but it will have to do for now. We were asked to vacate our current rental which is much roomier, hence the bigger furniture.

I don't like to go with closet systems. I think they are too expensive and it sounds like you could be on a budget. Make a list of everything you want in your closet - short hanging, long hanging, folded sweaters, shoes, bags, your clothes, your partners' clothes - whatever. Measure your closet, figure out what is already there - clothing rod, any shelves.

Buy what you can at Target. Their Sterilite plastic containers and drawer systems are a steal. I've used the plastic shoe boxes for shoes, stockings, purses. I've used heir plasitc drawers for tops, underwear, sweaters, delicate items. They come in a few sizes. The Container Store is expensive, but I use them to fill in any organizing needs I have but can't take care of at Target.

If your closet door opens rather than slides, don't for get to put hooks on the inside for all kinds of things - robes, hanging clothing you can wear twice before washing, bags, tote bags with exercise clothes, bags of scarves.

Did you try your dresser with the king bed in the bedroom? It's tight but can be like a little diamond using details and textures.

Here's a floor plan showing a king bed, two 24" wide night stands and a dresser under the double window still giving you 24" around the bed to function. You may consider changing the swing out closet doors with a by-passing door.

Consider a higher nightstand with drawers for more storage and install light sconces on the wall, instead of lamps.

Concentrate on that beautiful bed, the bedding and window treatments. Even though the window might be off center to the headboard, that's ok. The window treatments should be ceiling to floor and 2-2-1/2 times the width of the window. Don't skimp.

Dark walls are luxurious and keep the bed and bedding and rug light
