Repotting hanging baskets

I have some large planters that I fill with annuals every year. They are concrete, but lined with large plastic pots. This year I bought hanging baskets and set the baskets, including their plastic pots, inside my large pots rather than unpotting them and putting them into the bigger pots of fresh potting soil as I usually do. My thinking was that the baskets were designed to last the whole season in those containers, but now I’m wondering if they would do better with more room for the roots to grow. Or will they flower better in their original containers? Not sure what the science says on this. Thanks
