I thinkthis article is just to get revenue from Amazon clicks but I'd never heard of RJ45 pass-through connectors and using them would certainly make installing the connectors easier.

If I were the installer I wouldn't have attached the connectors either. I wouldn't have known anything about the Ethernet devices you were going to use or where you were going to put them so I wouldn't have known how long to make the cables. Plus different expertise is required than to simply route the cables through the walls.

Most cable modems don't have enough Ethernet ports. You may need to add an Ethernet switch to accommodate all the cables. And of course you'll need wi-fi for all the devices that only connect wirelessly.

You might want to terminate the cables by punching then down into a patch panel rather than attaching male RJ45 ends to then. I find punching down to be less error prone thsn attaching male RJ45 connectors (where if you mess up, you have to chop off the end and you lose some of the length of the cable), and results in a neater looking setup.

You’d then run short premade ethernet cables between the patch panel and your switch/router.

Good idea. If you have room, you can hang a piece of plywood on the wall and attach the patch panel, modem, power supply and related equipment to it; and use cable clamps to neatly route the wires among the devices attached to the wood.

Depending on the size of the "control box" you may be able to mount a patch panel inside. See this TRENDnet TC-P08C6AS eight-port model, for example.

Cat 5, 5e, 6, etc are cable specs, not really connector specs. The connectors are the same for each except that some connectors are labeled for the type of cable.

Hopefully your cables are all cat 6. There is no reason to install antiquated cat 5/5e.

As mentioned above, these should be terminated to a patch panel and then patch cables used between the patch panel and your modem. These cables are not designed for repeated bending.

If you don't want to do it yourself then find a AV integrator. They do network, AV, home automation and security.
