It's a clumper, and its roots won't go deeper than about a foot, so I think it should work fine. Some day, many years in the future, you may want to divide it as it will slowly expand.

Just FYI, my Fargesia rufa went from basically seedling size (1 1/2 inch pot) to 6 foot in about 5 years. That *may* give you some idea of growth. It's pretty much rounded.

So how big in diameter did your clump get in 5 years? I started mine from a 3-gallon pot, and in 15 years it's about 4' in diameter at the base.

I'd say about the same...at ground level (farther in overhang of foliage of course).
