Kitchen plan Feedback

last modified: 4 years ago

We are updating our kitchen. After working with a designer, this is the design we arrived at (the mock-ups are mine from her 2D drawings).

About us:

We are a family of 5 that cooks at home for most meals and eats most meals at the dining room table.

The kids help with cleanup and the two oldest make their own lunches for school.

We entertain informally a lot during the summer as we have a pool and so we serve up a lot of cookouts buffet-style on the counters.

If anyone has a better idea then what the designer came up with, I'd love to hear it before we pull the trigger.

  1. I wish we had been able to work in a walk-in pantry, but this pantry is better than nothing.

2. Is it too open? I'm afraid noise is going to carry more than I want with two walls down and that I will hate the inevitable mess.

Two limitations: The large window just to the left of the front door (in the current dining room) cannot move - it is prominent in the front of the house. The sink cannot move any further down the run on the front of the house, though it could move to the adjacent wall.

Current Plan:

New Plan:

Roughly, the new kitchen will be 22 1/2 feet across by 13 feet 8 inches (going out to 15 feet where the large window is).

@Buehl - you helped me with prior ideas that evolved into this when we sat down with the designer. Any other feedback? I know the dw should not be between the sink and the stovetop, but that was where it had to go.
