Backsplash sample opinion

Hi

in planning phase of kitchen uodate current shaker cabinets will be refinishing in white.

quartzite has been chosen and sllabs picked

i am NOT picking a backsplash until the counters are in. i am a planner and would like to have a few samples for consideration.

i am not into basic white subway tile.

tile store suggested Zeligue tiles .

thought this one was oretty ; Zeligue type , called montauk Gin color, which is like a pealized white, has a shimmher when light hits it tile has texture and movement .

i posted a backsplash tile previously, but majority told me it was too busy 🤷‍♀️

Im listening, and looking for not as busy, but not basic and common

Lots of photos of this tile on the Kitchen forum. Also search the names below, which are the same tile.

    SoHo Studio Myorka White

    Ivy Hill Amagansett Gin

    Tilebar Montauk Gin

    Equipe Ceramica Mallorca White

I tested this tile, actually bought a whole box of it, and it was too reflective in my space. I got too much light from the large windows causing glare on the tile and my polished counters. I ended up buying a honed white marble mosaic that hasn't been installed yet.

Testing the tile. I use Alcolin quake putty to hold them up!

    thanks chispa …

too bad it didn’t work for you , but glad you found another option that did.

i onky have one small kirchen window, so i dont anticipate a glare issue. the wall will be removed between kitchen and dining room, and there is a sliding glass door, that leads out to a screened in porch, so not much light coming in there either . think iill be good with potential glare, just have to see how it looks as well as other samples i will get .

Quake putty. Where were you when I needed you, Chispa?

My opinion is that this tile is really pretty with your counter material. It'll have to go with your cabinets of course, and then it'll have to pass the "is this too much white" test. But if you want white on white on white, this one definitely has potential!

    Thanks flo ….

will absolutey wait for cabinets .

cointers arent really white thoigh…. have color and movement i know its hard to telll from small square.

so, inthink i definately may want a white backsplash

does it have to be white?

go over to Tilebar.com and look under Nabi, Arctic Blue. The Jewel is on the left (also look at the Harlequin) and the regular subway on the right. The color is beautiful. order a few samples from them. you get 5 for $5.

Encore ceramics, Bali on the left, Bayou Gray 3x12 on the right (tilebar I think)

    Tilebar, Cadenza, Wales Gray

    Winchester tiles Essential ceramic.

    slate blue glass tile

    love this marble chevron

(BTW, It's Zellige tile. they are hand glazed terra cotta from morocco)

check out their new collection here. beautiful colors. (I'd get a few samples from them. and they do have the subway shape too)

I like this opal w/your slab

    some of their blues

Against the white and your countertop, this would be stunning, especially if you're using gold and a bit of natural wood.

the 4x4 tile layout in the zellige is very pretty.

Here's your Montauk Gin tiles, and below is the Sky Blue

    Hi beth

yep,… ina tuallt eodered some of the tiels you menrioned ( nabi)

im not doing gold, doing silver hardware … the gold is pretty, but im opening up to my dining room, current chandelier and hardware in there is silver . have to srick wothwith what works with what ii have, , otherwise its a trickle effect of changing things in dining room etc not going there LOL

the opal one you posted is pretty . have to check that out.

id like to stick with a white backsplash, not so much for tile. thinking if using blues in kitchen window treatment, runner .

but, maybe ill change my mimd once counters and cabinets are in . keeping options open

    Spell check

    * i actualy ordered some of the tiles you mentioned …nabi , harlequin

nice! btw, it's perfectly fine to mix metals. just because you have some gold or brass in the kitchen, doesn't mean you have change all the nickel in the other room!

Not a big deal. I'm sure your nickel hardware will be fine. I just happen to really like the gold w/the blues. they're natural compliments and add a bit of warmth to all of the cooler tones.

That Opal zellige is stunning. against your slab, I think it would be beautiful. I hope you order a few of those for samples too. (if you can) I understand not doing a heavy blue, but you haven't posted a pic of your actual kitchen or backsplash area, so I don't know how much we're talking about.

here's a whole lot of blue zellige tile

do you like the star and cross? this would be a nice option

    Thanks Beth

the gold and blue is very pretty, but i need to srick with silver tones.

im taking down wall between kitchen and dining room, so it will be joined; sort of like one room. golds will not work well in there. my dining room is a dark wood, white learher upholostery , silver hardware, chrome and crystal chandelier, stonington grey walls. white drapes …cool tones in there

i actually did post pics of my kitchen.

i thoight you saw them and may have commented ar some point .

    ah, just found it

    Not a lot of backsplash.

But, as you know, waiting until everything is in before finalizing is your best bet.

I can't wait to see that gorgeous stone installed w/the white cabs.

did you end up w/the same slab for the island?

and doing all white on both too?

    Lol maybe no worries

    hete you go again

if you close up on one with the wall, you can see small part of my dining room

Where the storage rack is, we are getting rid of that, extending the counterip to where the wall is(now ( wall is coning down) , adding undercounter beverage fridge, small cabinet next to fridge , and will continue the backsplash tile up the wall to the ceiling will add 2 floating shelves above countertop

Heres my dining room, which will now be open to my kirchen and sorr of one big combo . if ore tabel oad on table

didnt take it off from weekend dinner lol

bur the wood is a dark wood, with a purple / berry tinge to it its called black cherry stain

So all of that wall color/rug is staying?

it's a nice color, but has a lavender gray tone to it.

what are you doing w/the wood floors? are those getting refinished? I see a bit of yellow/warmth to them.

were you going to do wood shelves above that beverage fridge area?

are you going for this type of look w/the shelves?

one is walnut, the other is white oak, but I love this look.

Encore ceramic has the 'Silver' glazed tile. and I still like the honed/brushed marble chevron too.

But the more I look at this Opal color, the more I really like it w/your dining room and slab.

Paired w/some thick oak shelving, maybe a nice sconce, I think it would look amazing

TheTileClub has these in a ceramic. has that cool blue/gray/lavender undertone

They also have this Mallorca Blue, which i belive is the same as your Montauk Gin tile, but in the soft blue shade (they just renamed it)

This might be a good match. I'd get some samples of these too. theyre the right tone

This would be a nice runner in the kitchen to go w/everything

    https://www.tileclub.com/collections/zellige-tile

are you painting the kitchen the same as the dining room?

    Hi beth

the stoniftonngrey actually doesnt have an lavender tone in person . its really a true mid tone grey i think my camera/ phone phone/ computer shows colors way off, because they definatlty look different in person .

the floors as i said in previous oost willl just be sanded and refinished with a clear coat my entire house has the same floor and color in every room if i chamge one, they all have tonchange, and im NOT doing that. i dont care or mind of the floors dont go well, it is what it is and we are fine with it

inlike the sconce idea above the shelves. didnt think of that nice idea!

the shelves id want to do white to match the cabinetry. with the dark dining room furnitire and white kitchen cabinets, i dont want too many wood colors . i‘d want to keep it more blended in.

once the wall comes down, my kitchen acrually wont have any wall to paint other than the small trim area around the doorway to kitchen entenace. 🤷‍♀️

so, id probaly jsit donthat small area the stonington grey.

yep… i have a few of the sample tiles you posted on order. 😊

sonoma tilemaker also has some beatiful cermakc shapes i discovered today.

love that rug ! i like that opton a lot

hardeare is also beey interesitnf on the fence if we should change them.

ours are basic brushed silver, really can go with anything. have to see what the added cost may be. doing a bathroom at the same time $$$🥵

This will be the only “wall“ in the kitchen

    not mich to paint -LOL

these are my current hardware . pretty basic and can still work just fine, , bur if budget allows, will consider other options

i like some of the ones you posted you always have such nice ideas , thanknyou thank you, i appreciate your suggestions; always great and well thought out 😊

May I suggest the Cosmas from Amazon? if you get the 20 pack, the cost is about $85 or so. That's what I paid for mine (and I needed 60 of them!)

Once you get everything installed, I think you're going to want to go w/better hardware! I think something less curvy and thin would look better, IMO.

or, what do you think of these others?

How about a 30 pack of the 5"? under $60

Get them now before they paint so they can fill the hole.

(or get whatever you like. just have them fill one of the holes if you plan on changing the size. Bottom hole can stay as is. just have them fill the top hole on all of them, and on the drawers if they're drilled in the center.

    I like these too

For those prices I’d change them for sure.

    They are all really nice.
