DD has just moved into her first apartment, furnishing it on her own. Her style is "new college graduate with loans to pay off".

The windows treatments are tricky. The current fabric blinds are beige (not pink) and have to stay. The windows face west so she gets the late sun. Being in Oregon, she wants to maximize the sun when she can but also keep the heat in during the winter. What may be the best solution for these windows with all the hurdles of being uncentered on the wall, the funky ceiling due to the soffit, the radiator, etc.?

One more item to note: These living room windows are opposite the front door with the kitchen in between. So it's the first thing you see when you step into the apartment.

My first thought was to flank the windows with drapes but with the soffit so low, I'm stumped.
