Time To Join In The Fun

I will join in the fun, even though it will be brief as I am still three weeks away from some blooms from the usual suspects.

Up first is BEST IN SHOW BETSY. It is a Lily Auction win from Florida. I usually break scapes off the first year so it can put its energy to better use, but I wanted to make sure I got the correct plant.

LEGENDS OF THE FALL: Now this is a strange one. For the past three years, it has reached its registered height of 36 inches and it is an early bloomer. This year it is 22 inches and blooming in the foliage. It is also blooming about three weeks early. This is not the first bloom, but the sixth as the first five did not open well. The only thing I can think is that we did have a stretch of about 3 to 4 days of summer like weather near the beginning of May and it affected this plant more than the others. It will remain a mystery. My only hope is that I might get some rebloom.

That is all for me for probably the next three weeks. Back to lurker status. I must say that everyone's posts have been gorgeous.

Both of those are really pretty! Legends of the Fall is a nice shade of pink. I would really like to watch that movie again. I've been doing a Brad Pitt film festival for myself this month.

Interesting. It is too soon here to judge the prevalence of short scapes, but the spring weather was very fluctuating and on the cold side.

A good beginning, I really like Legends of the fall….hope it shapes up and reblooms. Things are also different here this season.

I do the dame with my scapes on new ones as well -I don't want to wait a year to see if I have the correct plant! Hopefully your other plants will not suffer from “bloom in the foliage” syndrome! Your first blooms are pretty.

Nice start David. I meant to ask you about the Maryland daylily sale you previously posted about. When is it held and where in MD? Since we are in WV now, it would not be a long trip.

Nice way to begin. I know what you mean about breaking off scapes of new plants. We can't bring ourselves to do it, not only to make the plant is correct but also to harvest some pollen to use.

I can never break off scapes either, and not really had a problem. Of course, since I did not break them off, they might have grown more fans or something. Both yours are very pretty. May was cool here too, up and down temps. I think I have only 1 plant with short scapes than is unexpected, as in I moved the plant or it is new.
