Thanks! Here is a picture of the room (for room dimensions and wall color only). Ignore the furniture in the pic (its the listing pic with prior owners furniture and I am completely refurnishing). The room will likely have this table, chairs and rug (below). My decorator is recommending a two tone linear bronze/brass chandelier because I have mixed metals in the finishing of my home already….I am so confused!

I think there is something a bit awkward about both of them. And as the only light, the second will cast a lot shadows from the cage around the candles

There will always be sales and suggest waiting until your room is pretty well done. Depending on window treatment, wall color, keeping/removing chair rail, art, etc. the room could lean either traditional or contemporary. Also if buying on sale, hopefully you can return if needed.

I’m not a fan of either with your other choices, but of the two, prefer the second if dimensions are suitable.

You don’t necessarily have to mix metals or even use linear, which will then open up so many more options. Take a look at inspiration pictures of dining rooms to help decide. If you are set on only linear:

Your house architecture has a really traditional feel, and I think the first two especially, but linears in general are skewing really contemporary and too glitzy for the house and for the table you are going to be using.

Thank you Maureen! I am not set on linear and never really thought about that style. My designer was recommending it as she said it would elongate the room and go with the length of the table?? I have no clue, hence my ask for help :-)

If you are not set on linear, I would tend to not do a linear in a room with a bay window, and traditional moldings and chair rail. Some would work, but I think a round would be more fitting.

Highly recommend looking at pictures and holding off. Hope you receive advice on a style you have a gut feeling is perfect, as lighting has a big influence. Good luck.

Hi Pamplist - I agree…My house is very traditional/transitional - and I have been trying to break away from that a bit to modernize it in the right way. I think my designer has been steering me more traditional - and I myself was wondering if these chandeliers go with the decor she has selected. My biggest problem is I have no time to really spend to get the perfect options for what I love (young kids, full time job, etc.). That’s why I wanted to work with a decorator, but its not as collaborative as I imagined :-) Other ideas for chandeliers that will work for my home and furniture are welcome!! I don’t have a great design sense so it’s very hard for me! Thanks everyone…

Seeing the other pieces your designer is suggesting, I still like the #2 chandelier you posted, but I agree with the comment to wait on deciding on a light fixture until everything else has been decided.

I think you are all correct in that I shouldn’t rush it based on a sale. I will hold off and make sure its the right piece!

I don't think either of the designer's suggestions is the way to go. With the long lines of your table, rug and room a round is a better choice.

I had a 96" x 48" table made for the breakfast room in the last house. I purchased a linear fixture, but the table is oval. For our current house, I purchased a shade chandelier that is larger at bottom than top. The lines of both fixutres play well with the table and space, and that is also your goal.

What do you think about something like this with your potential furniture? This particular abstract fixture is by Hubbarton Forge and comes in 9 finishes. It is not necessary to find a mixed metal fixture to go with the rest of the house.

With the chairs you will get and the table, I like one best. The curves echo the lines in the chair.

Do not buy the light until you have the decor in the room. Then post a picture. im not sold on two tone, or linear.
