Dark and Dated Kitchen - Help!

Attached is a floor plan of what I wanted to do in my old 70s kitchen and then two designs from a kitchen designer at Home Depot. I had wanted a wall oven/microwave combo but designer is pushing for a range oven and microwave drawer due to space issues. What do you guys think? I thought the wall oven would look more modern and me and my Mother in law wouldn't have to bend over to open oven or microwave but now I'm wondering if it will make my kitchen too tight and boxed in. Please note we have 8 people in my house. Two grandparents, my spouse and I, and four kids ranging from 17 to 7. I want something more modern yet cozy and light and bright with an island. I will also attached a pic of what the kitchen currently looks like.

These are pics of the kitchen when we bought it. Clearly we moved the ridiculously placed microwave and as part is the remodel we will remove the pole.

I had pictured the new wall oven layout to look like this (not my kitchen) but everyone is pushing against it. Would the wall oven make the stove area too cramped? Should I instead go with a range and microwave drawer?

Here's a color combo I love - light and bright yet warm.

The drawer micro allows a less crowded hood, passage to dining room, There is nothing "modern" about stacking a mirco and wall wall oven and it's a great option for many kitchens.

The drawer doesn't mean much bending at all and a good range with slide out racks? Same thing.

Without seeing dimensions of all the adjacent areas, and the kitchen as a part of that whole? Hard to suggest other options, as you seem confined to same space as before.

Show a measured drawing of the rest. All of the rest. with all windows, passages, dimensions etc.

If you have never had wall ovens try using one at a friend or family members home. Many years ago I had a single wall oven that was very accessible and I liked it. Recently visiting family I tried using their doble stacked wall oven and found the height difficult and awkward.

I think you need an actual KD not a cabinet salesperson .This is huge expense and especailly when you are getting into removing a supprt pole . so get eh best advice you can I agree we need to see the whole house plan. Is that your only dining space ? Can you post the floor plan without the cabinets and BTW never dead space cabinets for sure in a small spac e I do not like built in MWs and for sure not a combo with an wall oven I think MWs have a short lifespan and when they die for sure they will have cahnged the size but I aslo do not like them in drawers . IMO get a nice one that sits either on a shelf or on the counter and as for a wall oven in a small space that will depend on the design it is cheaper to go range but depends on how you cook I have a36 6 burner all gas range and double wall ovens . This why you need an independant KD and also make sure you can afford to move that pole

So I did hire an architect - so this is the lower level of the house with his original plan for a 6' 9" island (I think too big for space). This drawing shows original/current floor plan in a lighter color overlayed with new plans. We are extending the half bath behind the kitchen into a full for my elderly in-laws.

I have used a double stacked wall oven at my moms extensively - no issues with it. Just don't know this I have the space. I can afford to remove the pole - already confirmed that. Since the span isn't very large (12 ft) they will support with a beam and it's not as complicated. I wouldn't even bother with a remodel if that pole still had to be in the middle of the space. It makes things to tight and awkward.

I haven't studied your plan extensively, but I just wanted to say that we have a microwave drawer and love it. It has been in our "new" kitchen (!) for almost 13 years and we have not had a single issue with it, and we use it every day. I much prefer it built in, as opposed to a large appliance taking up counter space (especially in a kitchen that is not overly large. My 36" gas range and oven is also just fine, as opposed to wall ovens. In fact, we had a wall oven and cooktop before the remodel. I haven't had a problem bending over to remove things from the oven and I am not young anymore. My point: don't rule these out. While it is close, your kitchen doesn't appear to have the space for the stove/wall oven configuration in your inspiration picture, so I think cooking at the stove would be cramped by the corner. You need space on both sides of the cooktop.

You do not have the room for wall ovens or a 36” range.

In my drawings I have a 30" range. Though I think if I don't have a wall oven I should have room for a 36" range.
