Nothing unusual this year well maybe amaranth that I started from grocery store purchase but they are not big enough yet to harvest. This year I'm growing primarily varieties that have done well in the past. One thing that I plan on trying yet is rat-tail radish which is grown primarily for the pods.

The most unusual thing is a random virginia creeper vine seedling that appeared in my green house. There is not one anyehere near!

DW is a greens lover and she has taken to boiling both the Italian dandelions and escarole for a minute before stir-frying them. They are just fine this way but ... they both still taste the same!

We have an abundance of greens & choices right now, even had some leaves from this year's planting of Scotch kale and harvested a couple heads of those tiny Tiara cabbage. I'm impatiently waiting for the Portuguese kale.

We are already harvesting kohlrabi which we have both come to appreciate. I doubt if they are very common for the broader consumer world. We both admit, the taste is very similar to broccoli stems. If you like raw broccoli and haven't already, you should try them. Tell ya what -- I have less problem with kohlrabi than radish, which often upsets my stomach. It's a matter of timing the radish harvest, I'm fairly sure.

L Clark, we have a plethora of Virginia creeper. The dang birds spread the seed.

I am growing kohlrabi this year. Can you eat the greens, too?

This is only the 3rd or 4th time that I've grown kohlrabi and I haven't tried the greens. It took me a little while to realize that when the bulb is round, don't wait any longer to harvest that part.

I hope that you will give us a report on RMG if you try the greens.

How big around should the bulb be?

The size will vary with conditions and the age of the plant.

The bulb will begin to form. At first, oblong then round, After that, there is a risk that it will split. It has been best for me to harvest at that time.

I suppose, that sowing seed over several Spring weeks would make sense but, at least, kohlrabi keeps well with refrigeration.
