Countertop help !!

Hello Houzz community friends!! I want help with deciding kitchen countertop and island tops. Attaching a pic of current kitchen. Leaning towards snowwhite quartz on the countertops( currently its Curian) and larger island, leaning towards granite as it would be used a lot( the stove sits on the island) and we cook a lot so chopping, cooking and homework messes .. what color granite would pop out and look great with the quartz. I am stressing out thinking abt the colors as they will define the overall look .Thanks for your help.

White Corian is practcally is as carefree as it comes and can be repaired if needed so I would suggest keeping it. are you planning on replacing the island or just making the top larger? i am not a granite fan so that wouldn’t be my first choice but there are lots of choices available.

island cooktops aren’t popular here but I put one in my kitchen and I am very happy with it. what you really need is an overhead hood. that will make a huge difference in the way your kitchen works.

What lead you to the decision to replace the countertops?

We had Glacier White Corian in a previous home and it still looked new after many years. Not a pro but I wouldn’t mix quartz with granite. I would want the counters and island to be the same.

There are additional items that also need to be addressed. The green walls need to be painted

The light fixture needs to be changed out

The valance over the window should be removed or changed to a Roman Shade design.

It's difficult to mix quartz and granite. I would choose the granite first and then try to match it to solid surface quartz.

You don't want a busy granite with a quartz with veining.

In your case I would just pick a granite for all of it. Maybe look into painting the island if you want a bit more interest.

I get what you are trying to go for... maybe try a granite yard with white or light gray granite and pick one without a ton of movement. Then paint the island cabinets a complementary color and pick the quartz counter tops to complement that white. BeverlyFLADeziner said it all.. they have good ideas about the light and walls as well....

I would never replace the Corian, but suggest you remove the backsplash. If I see the photo correctly, the Corian counter has the Corian backsplash. What you have now, with the tile, is too much. I will vote for quartz over granite for the island.

No exhaust over the cooker so you need a new light/ lights that are really easy and really fast to clean.

We just bought the house and yes it is lil dated but we love the overall flow and size of the kitchen.. thanks for all your input. We will def change the light and window treatments. After reading through all the posts we are also leaning towards keeping a single stone. Quartz or granite. I will post the pics once its all done.. may take sometime as we are just starting with getting quote etc.
