The pictures you show are very nice.

I would do all slabs on the drawers, rather than the shaker look there.

Do you just mean slab drawer fronts with shaker doors? That's very common, if so (and, in fact, is what the original cabinetry in our 1915 house has too). We have a mix of flush inset and frameless cabinetry for design and space reasons, and for the frameless did slab drawers on the top and shaker style drawers for the drawers below (like your first two photos, except no face frame). For the flush inset cabinets we did all slab drawers (like your last three photos, with the idea that the face frame would make the overall look of the two types of cabinetry similar). I think we could have done shaker style drawers for the wide drawers in our flush inset cabinetry, but it was fine not to do that also. The slab drawer fronts are much easier to clean.

I would go with shaker for doors and slab for drawers if you are going to mix and match. I don't understand why on a run of drawers a few are slab while all the other's shaker. I see how it breaks up the monotony but still it just seems odd to my eye. It is for sure a personal preference. As your pictures show any way you do it--it's been done and works!!

@Kendrah Thank you for your reply! I am with you. The inset cabinet which has frame exposed is another reason I am considering tye slab door. If it is full overlay, probabky not .

@arcy_gw Thanks for your reply. Do you mean if we do top drawer flat and bottom two drawers shaker, it is not pleasant to the eye as all three drawers are the same style?

I too have the upper drawers as slabs and lower drawers as shaker. Not only is it easier to clean (most drips end up on top drawers) but it gives more room for pulls since typically the upper drawers are narrower than the lower ones. This holds true especially if you are considering using cup pulls. Good Luck!

I think that it depends on the size of the drawers? The small drawers cannot 'handle' all that framing while the larger drawers look fine with it. Custom made cabinets are generally made like that.

@artemis78 I am glad to hear your first hand experience. Our drawer cabinets are all 33-36 inch wide which is good size for shaker. If they are narrower cabinets, I will prefer to do just slab drawer. I do love how easy to clean for slab drawer. This is the main reason I am considering slab drawer.

@maddie260 Our drawer cabinets are all 33-36 inch wide. If they are narrower, like 24-30, I will do slab drawer without two much worries. For 33-36, I worried it is gonna be too plain.

@shermybeagle Thank you for your kind words! I do have concern about how easy to clean. I have the same setup as yours previously. I do notice some drips on the reveal even on the bottom drawer.

Yes, you can mix slab drawer fronts with Shaker doors. My 1910 house had this combo. I kind of regret not doing slab drawer fronts in my Shaker kitchen, because of the drips that catch on the lip of the Shaker drawer fronts.

If it helps, here is our kitchen with the two styles side-by-side. My husband still thinks we should maybe have done Shaker-style drawers on the inset cabinets on the right, but I think they look okay this way too, and it definitely simplified placement of the bin pulls. (Originally those two large drawers--they're 33" in a 36" wide drawer bank--were going to be four smaller ~16" drawers, but we decided that didn't work as well for what would be stored there, though it might have looked a little better aesthetically.)

@cawaps Yes. I had the shaker with 1/4 reveal previously. I know sometimes it gets a little bit annoying with cleaning. I don’t know if 1/8” reveal will help a lot or not much.

I did the shallower TOP drawers in SLAB and the deeper (taller) drawers in the 5pc shaker style. I think that looks great! But I also like the look of ALL SLAB. But in my home, I wanted a tad more English/Formal looking than True Shaker Looking.

Ok I love the look of the slab and shaker front mix. The kitchens pictured above are beautiful anf classic! Artimis, Kitchen Place, Sky 1122 - very lovely. we are in process, albeit rustic alder, log house, and we are doing the same.

OK I see now Sky1122 is posting pics of examples. apologiies for my oversight. We are going for the mix in our kitchen. all top drawers are slab. one bank of small drawers slab also. if you look at pics of antique shaker furniture they were doing the same thing. smaller narrower drawes slab.

I mixed slab top with two shaker drawers below. like the look but now that I need to add handles, not sure how to place since the lower drawers will have the recess @The Kitchen Place

Has anyone done slab cabinets on the top with shaker drawers?

I have slab door, frameless wall cabinets and am currently trying to decide what type of base cabinets to get, I like the slab drawer fronts for the thin top drawer, but am considering a shaker or some other style for the doors to add visual details and appeal, maybe with a full overlay, to you can see some frame... I'm thinking a dark blueish/gray for the base cabs, my wall cabs are a light gray stain on poplar wood. It's a mix of styles but my house is 100 years old, and every room is a different color with kind of a funky transitional vibe.

What color grey/blue is that on the cabinets? Love it
