What kind of fabric? Are they expensive? My sheers are an inexpensive cotton blend. They go right in the washing machine on the gentle cycle -- they don't take up much room. Some go in the dryer, others are left to air dry. And then, of course, they need to be ironed. But if your curtains are good quality, I'd send them to the dry cleaners -- they'll come back looking brand new.

Dry cleaner, but be ready to take out a loan. Machine washing isn't the part that would be an issue for me it is the ironing that would give me fits!!! My mom found 30 years ago it was just about cheaper to start over. A good vacuuming or run through the dryer on 'air' might be worth exploring.
