Here is my attempt, year 3. zone 7b near DC. (ignore weeds in the back, working on tearing out the patio).

i have four large hanging baskets and each has these, my attempt at thrill, spill, fill. each basket is at a different level of success. for some the thrill is great, others the spill is great and not the fill, etc. these are the most successfull of the three years, they are in full sun. My other containers have perennial herbs ( didnt have the chance this year to plant veggies or annual herbs).

I have nowhere to hang baskets from lol. I have some potted patio planters, but they're pretty mundane - petunias, sweet potato vine, geraniums. Pretty standard stuff. Not really even photo worthy but since I posted here I'm not sure whether I feel compelled to post a photo or if I shouldn't because they're not hanging lol.

I have nowhere to hang but if the railing planters count as hanging...there are 6+ railing planters in there, first three pics are more recent and one can't see the railing much but the latter 3 pics from about 19 days earlier give an idea of what part of the growth is from the "hanging planters.

im really surprised how little interest there is in this post.. are hanging baskets not a thing anymore???

I would definitely have hanging baskets but I literally have nowhere to hang them from lol. No porches, no covered patios or steps. I suppose I could buy a few shepherd hooks, but then again it might end up being just another pot(s) that I would never get around to watering lol.

A well-planted hanging basket is a thing of beauty. I do admire them at the garden centers! (Window boxes are another thing I admire. Alas I have none, and hubby refuses to hang any. Something about drilling into the siding or something lame like that...)

This is Petchoa Beautical 'Cinnamon' and 'French Vanilla'. There are 2 plants in 27cm (11 inch that would be?) basket. They were planted already in May, but still looked fresh and bushy until 2 weeks ago. The basket was outside in full weather experience from mid June, it was taken into greenhouse only to take photo. Now I have sold it, hopefully it continues to behave well also in the new home. Petchoas though are better for standing containers, because they are only slightly trailing.

This is 3 Fuchsia Leonita Double Rose-Blue plants in basket. Actually it took quite long for it to start properly blooming.

Wizard Coleus (2plants) and Creeping Jenny 'Goldilocks' (2plants). Does well in shade and half-shade. Very simple combination which does not require a lot of attention.

Petunia 'Tumbelina Anna'. Surprisingly very windproof petunia, in growth habit and fragrance similar to Priscilla Pro (which actually in Europe also belongs to Tumbelina family). If you get your hands on those plants, it is definitely worth to try.

This is snapdragon 'Candy Showers Yellow' (from Sakata). It was amazing for some 2 weeks, then finished blooming and after cutting back blooms again, but not so impressively anymore. One of them I sold and the client told it died on him :( The basked I did not sell is still blooming, but 1 of 3 plants in there is dead too. I guess this is off the list for the next year.

This is calibrachoa 'Chameleon Double Yellow Pink' (or Pink Yellow?). This was a disaster. In the first heat wave all the new shoots overnight turned yellow and there were black spots on the older leaves and stems. After putting them in shadow, all the spotty leaves dried fell off, but no new damage. I had 3 pots, one has returned to green colour, but no blossoms. 2 others are still with yellow shoots, do not react to iron helates. Roots seem normal. No clue what happened :( I would not exclude terrible messup with water/fertilzer mixture, but I used it for other plants too.... Does anybody have experiences something similar? It was beautiful plant when it was healthy. Still can not decide if I want to try again.

And this is famous Petunia Tumbelina/Supertunia 'Priscilla Pro'. Love this plant. Only I have small greenhouse and when there were many blooming Prscillas in spring, I thought I would faint, because they are so fragrant!

I had trouble with Crazytunia 'Mandeville'. (PW) Honestly, I have never seen a petunia which would be so sensitive to rain and wind. It obviously is not meant for our cool and rainy summers (Estonia, North Europe). Right now it is warm and sunny and it has a good day, but tomorrow the weather will go to hell and I will have picture or proper basket failure :(

I did end up buying just a bit of yellow lantana to break up all the purple and pink that I love. (Same thing I did in the gardens lol!)

Yeah, I'm such a pink and purple nut. I am trying though. I have one bed in the corner of my yard where I am planting lots of oranges and bright yellows and some reds. Actually I was just thinking yesterday how it's one of the better-looking beds lol. But I think it's because it's more of a planned bed, where I've purposely thought about what is going in there, instead of being at the nursery or browsing a catalog, thinking, "ooh, pretty!" and buying something, and then trying to find a spot to plop it in!

And my bigger challenge is the bed in between that and my usual pink and purple, the transition bed. I'm trying to make it all visually flow, as all these beds are along my property line, so in here there are apricots, softer yellows, purples and shades of darker pinks. It's fun to work with!

Also I love your pots, and that obelisk is lovely!

Dee thank you. The obelisk Is very heavy, one of the reasons it didn’t make it into the gardens lol.

Your beds sound lovely, especially the transitioning one. I know that was brave of you and can understand what a challenge it must be.

While writing this I realized I don’t have much yellow left. I used to have tons of Moonbeam coreopsis as I love the soft yellow. I wish i could find a hardier replacement as most has slowly disappeared, leaving me with other harsh shades which I’ve now accepted.

I’d really like more white in the garden too, but not many choices for that. I did have a tall white phlox self seed this year and I don’t think it’s David. Gotta love those nice surprises : )

These little plugs of Lantana loved their bigger pots and really took off... they love the heat.

A couple more that are surprisingly still happy...

Ken that is a rescue palm tree my brother brought over to me last fall. I overwintered it (barely) and put it out on the deck...its still not doing that great : /

Not hanging and not fancy, but my petunias have done fairly well this year. I trimmed them back about a month ago and they put out some fresh, new growth and blooms.
