How do they train the goats to eat only some plants but not others?

We had a herd here on the island for a couple of weeks clearing out a patch of feral ground in order to complete a section of an extended walking trail. It was pretty entertaining to drive by and see them all munching on Himalayan blackberries, English ivy and other invasive species. Yeah, they eat the native species too but they'll grow back. So will the invasives but at least they have taken them down to manageable levels. You couldn't have gotten through with a machete before the goats visited!!

Any time there are goats eating something instead of spraying, it's a good thing. A much more intelligent approach.

We had some pigs near here clearing an overgrown area for a vegetable patch. Not only do they eat the top growth, they dig out and eat the roots, fertilise the soil and till it thoroughly. Brilliant gardeners.

I first encountered goats being used for gardening/brush clearing projects while in SoCal visiting my sister. They were climbing all over the hills surrounding Laguna Beach munching away at any excess brush or weeds or tall grasses to reduce the fuel load for any wildfires. There have been some pretty severe ones in the surrounding hills and canyons, including one in '93 that pretty much leveled the city.

I'm not sure they can keep up with it all but at least it's a start!

Well, if you can't rake the forests to prevent wildfires :), let there be goats..

I'd do yoga again if a herd of goats joined in.
