I'm working on a basement which I plan to put an entertainment area with a projector. Rather than hang the projector with a pole mount, I plan to build a box from the ceiling to house it. The only problem is my ceilings are low, and it will take me below the 7 foot code (6'0" from floor to bottom of box). I was wondering if there was an exception I'm not aware of which will allow a framed box (soffit?) against a back wall to protrude down to less than the 7 foot to finished floor code? It's totally out of the way and no one would need to walk underneath it as it will be behind seating. The bottom surface of the box is no more than 20in from wall to front of box, and 20 inches wide. There is no other mechanical equipment in the way which would "require" a lower soffit. Thank you in advance for any help.
