You really dont have folding space, Id probably stack the W/D,. If you could move the door id have stacked W/D on the left of the sink and folding countertop across on the other side of the room. Id make the door a pocket door.

much better, folding space is important , you dont want to drag laundry into your room to fold. Do you have a space for a misc. dirty stuff hamper? Maybe you can do a pullout either under the sink or that other cabinet. messes can happen quickly in the L/R and get overwhelming fast. If you have a spot for everything it will be easier to keep organized. My kids had a designated laundry day to keep the clothes from piling up.

Do people really stand in their laundry room and fold clothes?
I take my basket and sit my rear on the couch and watch tv while I fold clothes. I can’t imagine being stuck in the LR for that. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a counter area and it’s just always full of random clothes and items there’s rarely a time I could even use it for folding if wanted to.

I do like the revised option posted better than the original bc it seems more useful and the shelves would have been difficult to reach or clean anyway.

I do, I have a tv and a speaker, everything has a place so I dont drag laundry all over the house. I spent 20 years doing it that way, this house was designed for me. My kids are pretty grown so they do their own laundry. a well designed laundry room keeps the whole house a bit neater. Between blue tooth speakers and smart Tvs you can have the ”necessities in the L/R” too lol

Maybe when it’s just DH and I, but right now it takes so long folding laundry for 4 I’d be alone all the time haha

@justcallmepool, We’ve all been there. Im not going to say that youre going to miss all that laundry when its gone, you wont. Even now,I do laundry most days of the week, its so much easier folding for 10 mins every day than looking at a pile of laundry and spending the day washing, folding , putting away. Doing smaller loads everyday actually saves time and will help keep you from losing your mind. You will get in some quality alone time while folding. Its something to think about. I had 3 who also played sports and there was constant laundry and red dirt soaking in the tubs. So Washing every day helped me not to go insane. Enjoy your mess generating family lol

Oh lord the softball uniforms do get me LOL. I've tried doing a load every day before and it just made me feel like I was always doing laundry. So now I just use folding as my excuse to watch football all sunday :)

I did get every member their own basket to make it easy to at least put the folded clothes in there and move to their rooms and out of my view. Whatever works!

@justcallmepool I'm with you. I don't fold in my LR, even though I have space to do it. If I did it in the LR, I would be the only one folding it. At least when I dump it on the bed, DH feels guilty and pitches in a bit. I also don't have time to do laundry throughout the week. I wish I did. Last weekend's laundry is still waiting to be put away.

@Panda Bear it's all kind of dependent upon how you want to use the space. If you want to fold in there, then absolutely prioritize that space. Those corner shelves will not be very functional - so if you're planning on having that as decor, fine - get a good stool so you can dust them occasionally. Corner cabinets would have the same issue accessibility-wise. Laundry machines are huge. I had cabinets over my machines in my last house and couldn't reach above the bottom shelf without a stool. So consider that most of that space will be long-term storage, not stuff you can easily grab.

If you prefer hanging things on hangers to dry, then the clothing bar is a good idea. Otherwise you could add a couple wall-mounted racks that can be stored when not in use - they'll cramp your LR when they're down, but for temporary use they'd be fine (or get one you can store in a closet and hang dry things in the hall?).

Also consider getting pull-out racks in the cabinets to make things easier to reach. In our new house, I've contemplated cabinets above my W/D (maybe down the road), and I'm considering getting larger cabs (24") and adding pullout shelves to make things more accessible.

I do fold in my clset laundry space I have never had a sink in my laundry room and now with the new washer and all the options IMO there is no need for a sink and IMO those cabinets will hold very little , open shelving in a space where lint is always present makes no sense and neither do those in the corner cabinets . So I would remove the sink make that area a nice place to fold clothes and do one wider cabinet all across the wall above the W/D

@Patricia Colwell Consulting, when you have kids, stains, and sports, a sink is where everything is left to soak. Id rather do it in the laundry room. I didnt have one in my last home (where all of that happened) and i had softball and soccer uniforms soaking in my kitchen sink, and sneakers soaking on the counter. I probably could do without it at this point in my life, but my daughter is fastidious with her sneakers, they still soak in the laundry sink. There is no laundry setting that will clean those stains lol

If there's room for cabinets on the wall opposite the w/d, that's probably where I would put them. And use the space above the w/d for hanging stuff. I agree that it is hard to reach up and over a w/d enough to be able to reach something back in a cabinet.

I have an accordion clothes hanging thing installed over my washer where I hang items, plus one of those octopus things with clips where bras and swimsuits get hung.

My detergent is in a cabinet opposite the w/d. I only keep the stain remover out but mostly bc I'm lazy and it's small & light and easy to move around out of my way. Not so much with a giant tub of detergent.

The main thing is to consider how you'll use the space. Do you hang a lot of items? Do you fold in the LR? Are you wanting to store other stuff in there too like cleaning supplies, vacuum, broom, etc., excess toilet paper, etc. out of season items like beach towels?

Are you a person who will end up just tossing dirty stuff in there and it will pile up on the floor until you're ready to wash it? Or is that just me haha

@M Riz agreed about the sink. I don't soak IN my sink as I use oxyclean a lot and that can do a number on stainless steel, but I put a bucket in the sink. Having a water source there is absolutely necessary IMO.

Also, do they size the build for your particular W/D? Looks like a snug fit. What if you get a larger washer at some point. I have one of those huge GEs with the automatic soap dispenser, much larger than many WD. Dont pigeon hole yourself into 1 washer dryer size.
