best primer for new drywall & older, painted plaster

Hello- we are about to start painting the interior of our house after a big reno. I was trying to figure out what type of primer to use because we have a combination of new drywall and existing plaster walls. Should I use a pva for the new stuff and then a general purpose primer for the existing walls? The hard part is that some walls literally have both old plaster portions and new drywall sections.

For new drywall, pick a primer that states on the can, that it is for new drywall. For your older plaster walls, plaster can absorb moisture out of water based type primers, and you dont want that. The best thing for plaster walls, is an oil based primer.

So literally use 2 types of primer on the same wall?

If you have both on the same wall, I would use the oil based for both. If you google primer for new drywall, and then google primer for plaster, you will be able to read all this. There is a lot of info for primer and what surfaces it goes on.
