Yes, I agree woth NHL. The sooner you can move them to shade, in ground or pots, the better. Otherwise the sun will fry the leaves. If you put them in pots, make sure to water. Plants in pots dry out more quickly.

hosta are only shade tolerant ..

if you provide enough water.. many do just fine in full sun ....up north anyway ... probably not a thing down in TX ...

pot them.. move them to full bright shade.. replant in fall or winter if you dont want to deal with pots in winter .. whatever you idea of winter is in TX ..lol ..

july is usually the start of root growing time.. when the plant starts storing energy for next year in new roots .. so it might be the perfect time to do it..

use a quality media in your pots ...

I'm in Texas (DFW) and yes, it's friggin hot. I grow in pots. Pot them up and put in shade; water daily, at least while it's so hot. There is no winter problem in my area. (Pots don't stay frozen here.) Unless you are in the panhandle, it's not a problem.

ken is in the upper peninsula of Michigan. He doesn't know about our sun. Do not try to grow hosta in sun here. There are some that will take part day sun, like morning sun or really late afternoon sun. It's my experience that they like full shade or dappled shade (seems like their favorite). They cannot take our sun all day.

Did Ken move again? He's not a yooper(?). He's almost middle of the mitten. Although, it doesn't make much difference, except the moose aren't eating his Hosta.

Well, I didn't know he moved, but it's still really cold up there. He once explained the difference of the angle of the sun and it's intensity depending on your latitude, and how that would affect how much sun your hosta could take. Maybe he should have been a "paid" teacher.
