What style lighting is on your front porch? Can you post a photo?

Put a different light fixture on each stone pier and when anyone questions you about it, just put your head in your hand, shake your head and say, "I should have never listened to that architect."

Or find a pier fixture that matches your other outdoor fixtures.

The distance between the house and the post is very large, its not a factor, the style will be similar thats all that matters.

@Mark Bischak, Architect…..the same company that made my lanterns DOES have a post/pier mount. The height is good @ 23.75”, but I think it’s too narrow @ 10”, plus it has very heavily seeded glass with a yellowish cast which I would definetly want to change and I feel very lazy about doing that :) I actually had a local glass place make me clear glass for all my lanterns because I did not like their glass and there were no other glass options (32 pieces of glass). I don’t mind cleaning the clear glass close to the house but have an aversion to having to clean the ones out by the street which is why I would prefer a clear seedy and why I’m balking at any of the lanterns with clear glass.

You need more light than you think you do. We had stone pillars at our previous house, with dark iron lantern style fixtures and they seemed to throw less light than I wanted in winter. These will be on A LOT for several months so make sure you can get enough wattage. I think the bulbs matter a whole lot.

A simple style with the glass you like will work if the size is right. Too tall and skinny does look weird on these types of pillars. Ours were with small posts but very similar in style to your porch lights. They didn’t sit right on top of the stone, but I definitely like that look. I vote for that style because of them way they will look on the pillars. Matching the porch isn’t the main reason.

Make sure the access to the bulbs is easy! They always burn out on the coldest night of the year.

I would assume the lights on top of the stone piers are not meant to illuminate the area, but to provide something to aim a vehicle between to enter the driveway. If illumination of the area is needed, a different type of light fixture would be needed that would be mounted much higher and direct the light downward on the desired area to be illuminated.

@Mark Bischak, Architect….you are correct in your assumption. We will also have lighting directed on the 4 sides of each column which should help to illuminate the area towards the ground somewhat.

Agree about the tall and skinny fixtures. Definitely want to avoid that look. Agree also with easy access for changing bulbs. Some of the fixtures have hinged doors which is a definite plus/requirement.

Funny, I was more concerned that the fixtures might be too bright so will have them on dimmers. Each fixture will have 3 candelabra base bulbs and I’m pretty sure they’re @60 watts max for each bulb, so should be plenty of light.

This is beautiful! the price is great and size is perfect! Very complimentary to your porch lighting.

Thanks….Not quite a fan of where the arrows are pointing, and I found I do need a pier mount or at least an adapter for a pier mount because the electrical holes on the columns are a bit off center and the typical 3” post mount won’t cover the hole.

Are your other outdoor fixtures rubbed bronze or black ? It is hard to tell in the photos. Your #1 pick looks like dark bronze. To help in searching, is that what you need/ want, Nidnay?

post mounts are not three inches, you have to buy a post mount adapter, those are typically 4-6 inches at the base. anything you buy that is made for a post will require that, Hinkley will sell the one in the same finish.

They have square adapters that are much larger. Every post mount that I look at are 3” before adapters.

yes, the PMA should cover the off center hole, ALL post lights, well 98% ( commercial exception), are 3 inch.

you just drag the wire under the adapter to the 3" hole.

21” x 11””, customizable finish color and type of glass. I like how this has a substantial, but integral, base where it mounts onto the pillar. I think this shape would look very nice in contrast to the square pillars, since it is not square , but not curved glass either. Since this is different from those up at the house, maybe go “all the way different” and use a verdigris finish. I think that would be a charming compliment to your home’s character. Notice there is no restocking fee😉 for returns. —- I still also like #2 ,IF you could have seedy glass panes cut locally. We had to do that with a banister light ( 4 panes) when the person power washing our deck took out one of the fixtures. It was relatively easy and inexpensive to find ,and have cut, the textured glass we needed. — PS: If you need permission to go ahead and let yourself order #1, your favorite, 😜, just know that in my search,I came across several light fixtures that were much more than that ! ( Easy for me to say, haha .☺️ )

Maris lighting is based in CA, they make a superior product at a superior price, as it goes, I sold a lot of this companies lighting over the years especially being on the coast and needing a product that holds up to salt air. They make a nice 4 sided lantern that would look much better. That being said, I still think you will do better with the raised look.

I was trying to find a 4 sided lantern when I came across the Maris fixture I posted. The 4 sided Maris lantern is too small, imo.( see below) . Others were either too small, clear glass or even more expensive than #1 option. Nidnay, you were right - one would think this is easy, but it is not.

yup thats the one, to be fair, its a beefy fixture scale wise. The company that owns that now is called Lighting Innovation, they always made a similar product. That said they will make anything custom as well.

With spring now upon us, I’m in a bit of a panic because I have soooo much garden work to do (things i neglected to finish last fall are now screaming at me!).

Lovely! I'm in the process of replacing 6 post lanterns similar to this. All 6 were low voltage, connected to transformers outside, which I can't seem to find any equivalent replacements, so it looks like I may need to have mine rewired.

If you don't mind sharing, what manufacturer/lighting brand did you go with for these?
