Sounds about right to me if it includes the Durock and waterproofing. $3,500.00 is just dreaming.

I believe it only included the actual slab of tile. I should figure that out. I know the prep and durock isn't included but it might be installed?

We wanted to upgrade from tiling the shower to porcelain slabs. was quoted an adfitional 25k to do slabs instead of tile. we opted for 24x48 porcelain tile instead

Very well could be just for the material upgrade. In my market, 10K is *way* low for a steamer, closer to a regular shower, well prepped and tiled.

. And everything is more expensive now. You will also need well trained and vetted installers for large format porcelain panel installations. The industry is conducting lots of training for these installs. Expect to pay significantly for the install. Or choose a smaller format tile. And a qualified contractor with experience and qualifications for steam showers and your material.

All solid materials walls are very expensive. Other than the gas station bathroom acrylic box store stuff.

Relative to the cost of a wall of shower-sized slabs of porcelain x 3, my $4000 Transolid shower (38” x 63” with wheelchair accessible shower floor) was a steal.

A solid surface like Corian shower walls are much less risky than LFT, making them less expensive. They are much less delicate during fabrication, handling, and installation, and unlike porcelain, are inconspicuously repairable while still providing all the looks, sanitation, and easy maintainence.

@Joseph Corlett, LLC I just had a guy come out and tell me that he wouldn't put Corian in a steam shower due to moisture getting behind it. I thought this was odd since it is a solid surface. Could this happen or would it be a case of poor prep/install?

DuPont, Corian's manufacturer, prohibits its use in saunas or steam showers. Page 10.

I'd have to do more research, but it may be possible with the proper detailing. Wouldn't be the frist time I went against a manufacturer's instructions without consequence and probably won't be the last.
