Threshold/transition bathroom tile.

Retiling the bathroom just off my main entrance hall. The tile on the hall side runs through the kitchen and is staying for now but will eventually be replaced with tile or hardwood. The bathroom side is getting new 12x24 porcelain tile. Previously, the hall/kitchen tile ran into the bathroom as well. I'm in the demo phase and have separated the tile at the door. I'm planning a marble threshold to give options for the future on the hall side. What's the best way to do this? Should I use a 2 inch marble threshold just on the inside of the jamb stop and cut the existing tile in place? EDIT: I'm not sure what the subfloor looks like under the bathroom side just yet, so there's a chance of a definitely height difference needed if I have to install backer.
