Arched window dilemma

We have a "bonus room" that we would like to use as a guest room. There is a large arched window in this room, which would make the room very bright in the morning for our guests. We had it quoted for an arched cellular shade and it would cost $600 to cover. That's more than we can spend right now especially on a room that will only be used maybe 5 times/year. Anyone know of an alternative? Suggestions?

There was another dilemma post with this very issue and it was suggested that they cut a thin piece of plywood to fit in the space and cover it with fabric that coordinated with their curtains. Foamboard might work as well. Just be sure to do both sides neatly as it will show from outside.

Just a simple curtain on a rod at the ceiling.

Take a paper temp shade (Redi-shade) and cut the width to the size of the arch's radius. Fold it over and you have yourself and arch window covering. If you want something more permanent/custom, you should be prepared to spend $500- $1000 for that size arch window.

We solved this problem by cutting a piece of foam board to size, inset in the frame. For those few days a year when guests use the room, just tell them they may want to use it if they wish to sleep in. It goes up at lights-out and comes down in the morning. Stored under the bed. We glued a small styrofoam block onto the surface to make it easier to handle. Or, you could spend $600 ...

These "bonus" rooms with arched windows can end up costing more than their worth. Plus your builder has stuck your bonus window into a corner to make it even more difficult to dress. :(

Everytime I see an "arched window" I feel like slapping someone. I have 2 so perhaps that is why I am testy all the time. Nothing but design trouble LOL. I would pull off the trim and drywall over it, being that it is in the corner. That is not to expensive.

That's actually not a bad idea, Margo but then we'd also have to have the outside done in siding too...

jarbatz- you could leave the window alone on the outside. Why not just put a piece of stained glass or mirror behind the drywall before you put it up, leave the glass as is. The inside would be covered but the outside would still be an arched window and have the reflection of the glass or mirror.

I have one above my entry door just go to Home Depot or Lowes they have paper fan and u cut to length u need.. Inexpensive too

It apparently helps to keep the sun away, if I removed it it would be brighter in here if u happen to see sunlight, my door brings in the sunlight...
