It depends on the size of your pendants. 3 pendants if small, 2 if larger. Have you selected lights yet?

Thanks for responding. I haven’t but have been trying to quickly do that. I’m looking at one that is 17” wide and another that is 12”.

So not a pro at all, can only offer a reference point. We're putting in a 7' island. Our designer (well, really her preferred lighting store staff) recommended a couple of 3" and 4" options for a set of 3 pendants. The recommendations for 2 pendants were 8" & 10" wide. We have very low ceilings, 92", which was probabl a factor. My guess is with higher ceilings you could use larger pendants? But 17" almost certainly means 2.

Of course, standard (excellent) houzz advice is to blow up some balloons, hang them from the ceiling, see what it feels like.

My kitchen island is 8 feet long. I have 3 pendants and they are 5” wide. Hope this helps!

My 8' island has 2 pendants, approx 15" diameter and 19" tall. Ceiling is 10'.
