I think it’s more than fine. you have other things going on, different color for the cabinetry, the herringbone behind the range, it’s a good idea to hive the eyes a place to rest.

I'd only do a single backsplash tile vs two. To me it looks like you aren't finished ripping one out. If you like pattern, you could do the subway in herringbone throughout or just above the range in one of those square details shown below.

The subway tile is fine. It’s the change to the wall of herringbone tile behind the range, which is off to my eye. The herringbone was unecessary, and too busy.
