    Who, what, where?

The way to get remodel help is to research your area. Talk to friends who've done work and been pleased. Internet pictures can be lies......a gorgeous bath photo can be a leaky and rotting mess six months hence. Do your due diligence.

Still the best is referrals from people you trust and whose homes you have seen and often you need to interview more than one contractor. to get the righ fit. My suggestion if you ar erenovating start with a good designer who has contractors they have worked with tried and true is still the best .

This is a bath remodel company -based out of LA and coming to Seattle

They are putting in a studio in Bellevue Square. Storefront in a high-end mall, my first thought is "probably not a value buy."

The Pros have shared excellent advice. The photos look good because they are renderings - have you seen a finished bathroom on their social media? If you like a design, use the photos as a starting point and work with a local designer or GC that you vet yourself - you will save yourself a lot of frustration, time and money. As a current customer waiting over a year for a finished bathroom, I recommend reading their Houzz, Glassdoor and Google reviews.

Search Made Renovation - Bay Area in Kitchen & Bathroom Remodelers on Houzz for several reviews. I'm in the process of trying to cancel my project before construction begins because I've completely lost trust in the company. The 1 star reviews have been my experience so far. I wish I had found the "real reviews" here before signing a contract with them. It's new learnings for me and I 100% agree with the advice above to vet a GC yourself.

“Real reviews” - This. 100% this. About 8 months ago, Made’s Yelp page vanished when the star ratings started going down.

    https://yelp.to/bfhfGyLu6qb

Around June, a lot of 5-star reviews suddenly flooded other review sites at the same time they returned to Instagram. New social media hire, perhaps? Read the 1-stars. I’ve had a similar experience to many of them.

I hope whomever wrote this post did not go with Made. Real reviews with detail are all 1-star, including my own. Check out buildzoom - which are verified reviews:

Unfortunately, I went with Made Renovation. I think they may have started out okay, then completely fell apart. They were supposed be be based on their online tech approach. But that is one of the worst parts. They have not dashboard for your project where you can see completion of milestones, or accounting of your invoices received or paid. My project site on their pages still just says "welcome to Made Renovation" and only shows the before pictures of my bathrooms. Nothing about all the designs we have completed.

The communications were slow and cumbersome at first because they try to do so much by email. It takes a week to get an answer to your questions and they only answer 1 of the multiple questions in your email. So it take two or three more weeks to get answers that could have been worked out on a 10 minute phone call.

Things have gotten worse from there. Now they are sending invoices for milestones that have not been reached! They have stopped payment to the general contractor because they say I have "not paid my invoices".

I contacted them as soon as I got these invoices to discuss the specific milestones they relate to and over a week later I still have no response. This is after sending multiple emails and leaving phone messages.

It is beginning to seem like they are going under and tying to collect as much money out of customers as they can before declaring bankruptcy, without paying out anything to the GC's. I may be wrong, but this is what it feels like at this point.

I can verify that I have a contract with Made Renovation if needed for this review.

Could NOT have said that better than Sabrina. All design is pretty linear, but especially ground up construction. Next ? Bathroom reno.....your fabulous shower may be that, but not much fun until the glass/template and that can't happen until that shower is tiled. Kitchen same, but at least you don't need the privacy : ) All major design is best hands on and local. Distance implies a very CLOSE relationship with the builder /foreman and subs. Anything else is to begin with a foot in the hole as it ISN'T Amazon. com. CLICK! and nor should you attempt it. I often do projects at great distance with clients I know very well. With same thing applied to the worker bees. My time involved in the best LD scenario's ? Triple the same size project in my backyard.

This experience has been a nightmare. I almost feel like their advertising claims border on fraudulent. We started this project 9 months ago. They couldn't get the materials and finishes we wanted because they were back ordered so we went with designs that weren't our first pick to move things along. It still took 6 months to get materials. We tried to be understanding with supply chain shortages, but how much longer would our first choice have taken? Then the GC came in and they taped up our floors and demoed the bathroom, we were thrilled it seemed like things were going to pick up. Then nothing for months as cold air came in our house. Then we got a plumber - the inspector said "sloppy, just up to code work," then the electrical saga came, an UNLICENSED electrician did the first round. Thank goodness for inspectors as they came down hard but to just get things up to code took over a month for a simple job. Mind you we had to pay for the permits - I asked Made to reimburse me for the permits because of how awful it was and that we did not want to jeopardize the GC relationship and they told me I had to talk to the GC about a refund, not their problem. Now while the bathroom is tiled, a part was damaged in delivery and the paint b/c it has been 9 months was not usable. So we went to buy the paint to keep things moving and asked for a new part to be expedited. They wanted proof that the part was damaged, so I had to dig through my trash, contact the GC etc. The only thing they have been on is billing me and making sure it's paid that day. I wanted to give them glowing reviews because we have had contractor issues before so I wanted a company that could help with that. They assured me at the beginning that was their model. It is a scam. I've tried so many times to get them to help me. Yesterday I was in tears, and can't wait for this project to be over. Learn from my mistake.

I’m sorry your project has not gone smoothly to say the least. I have read so many nightmare reviews from Made Renovation customers including those who are lawyering up. Even the employee reviews are overwhelming negative. I continue to scour the internet for news that they have gone out of business or of a class action lawsuit.

They removed their reviews from Houzz, but this is the most recent Yelp thread:

    https://yelp.to/uWaQzeMpSxb

I truly wish you well on the remainder of your renovation.

Yes...we on Yelp are moving towards a consolidated effort b/c we are all in a desperate situation with them, with various stages of completion on our bathrooms, various outstanding invoices b/c they won't correct them (and I know if I pay them, hoping they'll later refund me, that it will never happen). Come on over to yelp and leave a review there and I can then reach out to you to bring us all together in an email convo. I am not a lawyer, just a super dissatisfied customer who thinks we need to connect with their funders on a mass scale to get them shut down. They do not deserve to be in business. Roger and Sagar are not leaders. This company they created is a failure and they need to own that and do right by their current customers and NOT continue to expand. RB

Working with Made Renovation has been one of the worst decisions of my life. They are supposed to make the process streamlined and easier for the homeowner. Instead, my involvement was tripled (or more!) because of their inability to do anything correctly. Once you sign a contract, the scam begins. The designer made error after error, costing us time and causing ongoing frustration; and ultimately in the construction process we found even more of her errors. They claim 'no hidden fees' yet...they tried to charge us a fee for 'intake' of our materials - while we are already paying them to procure, inventory, store and deliver them. And clearly they did not even inventory the materials when they arrived at Made's warehouse, or they would have noticed how many things were incorrect. We have twice as much tile as we needed (not just a 10% overage to cover cutting tiles, breakage, etc.); two toilets sitting in our garage as they kept ordering the wrong one (and we still don't have the correct toilet seat); 60" shower doors when our shower opening, as designed by Made, was 65", materials which were just plain incorrect for the job. They sent a contractor to our house with a sledgehammer and a contract for work at our house signed by Roger- and didn't even tell us, then said the contractor was mistaken. Their utter inability to bring a streamlined construction process to the customer starts at the top where there is no leadership from founders Roger Dickey or Sagar Shah. When we were completely exasperated and finally reached out to Roger and Sagar, they would join a meeting and just sit on the sidelines - no input, no support for their customer, no follow up to ensure the work was happening smoothly. The reality is that their model is not functional and there is no way for Made to actually make money without ripping off their customers and putting all of the burden of managing the nightmare on the customer. Midway through our project, they changed their model and took away our contact: leaving us only a general email or call center to reach out and hope someone got back to us. Eventually. The portal which they sold us on doesn't exist. The service they sold us on doesn't exist. The leadership they sold us on doesn't exist. It's a full bait-and-switch. Whatever you do...do not entrust your bathroom, your dollars or your sanity to this team. If I could give negative 10 stars, I certainly would. Worst. Decision. Ever. We signed with them on 12/22/21 - so it's been 13 months and counting...and our project is not yet complete. (relative to others, atleast, we do like the contractor we ended up with and he seems to want to do right by us. I'll review them once the work is truly done!)

We also have had a horrible experience with Made. Similar to other reviews below. Terrible construction process/workmanship and extremely long timeframes for all stages of the project. Very high turnover of staff and contractors as well. I noticed that they just took down their Yelp reviews again...

TL:DR- Terrible experience with Made. They're borderline fraud.

As plenty of other people have commented, Made does a pretty good design job, but as soon as they have you paying them, their distance from the actual build portion of the work just slows down communication and completely gives up all quality control to whomever they hired to do the work, which is a recipe for disaster.

And disaster is just what we got. We had no control over who Made hired. They did a terrible job; showed up randomly and inconsistently, did poor quality work, failed multiple inspections (repeatedly)- which incidentally they tried to get us to pay for, graded the shower incorrectly so that it floods rather than drains, and installed several of the luxury perks we paid for so badly that they don't functions. We're going to have to hire a local contractor to fix all of this on our own dime, because....

Made consistently failed to be any sort of advocate for us, forcing us to have all the difficult conversations that Made theoretically should handle, seeing as they're "the project manager." They respond slowly to us, if ever, and constantly duck our calls. They dump all the mess in your lap, which really begs the questions, "what the F*ck is Made getting paid for?".

Further, one of our parts was delivered damaged, and Made refuses to do anything about it. They're even going so far as to (try and) make us pay for it AGAIN.

Oh, plus, the job was supposed to be done in October, and I'm writing this at the end of March, with the job still unfinished.

To be fair and balanced, one thing Made is great at is telling you that you owe the next payment, even when there's no progress. So there's that.

My recommendation is to find a local contractor with a solid reputation and pay a bit more so that the job is done right and quickly.

Made is the worst renovation experience of my life.

Do not hire them. Do not work with them.

They are a complete, nightmarish shitshow.

They are the opposite of their brand promise, and will charge you more, communicate with you less, and provide subpar workers who will quit on the job (due to pricing disputes. Thanks Made!).

We have two bathrooms that still aren't fully functional after dealing with pricing disputes, two different contractors, and a whole slew of other issues.

Literally hire anyone else (a toddler, your grandma! someone!) and you'll be better off.

This company can't go out of business fast enough.

Please reach out to the California State Contractors Licensing Board and file a complaint. They are known as Untitled Labs doing business as Made Renovation. Their license number is 1058501.

Please note that if you financed through Made like I did when I took advantage of their 5 year 0% interest loan, the finance company has sent them full payment. As a licensed contractor Made Renovation is in violation of California Professions and Business Code 7159. It is illegal for a contractor to accept payment for construction and materials before the job begins.

If Made asked you for money upfront, financing or not, they are in violation of the law. If their service was in any way not up to your expectations, if you had difficulty in any way, if your job is a mess, please contact the state licensing board. Made Renovation is a contractor no matter what they told you.

Super slick marketing and nice design is where #maderenovation stops. We are still tyring to get a master bathroom completed 9 months in. Its almost done, but wow, this has been a bad experience. The issue is that the design was done incorrectly which resulted in the shower glass door and pocket door being the wrong size (which they send before the contractor is on site.) .Once the contractor identified the issue, we needed to get new sized doors. Made refused to return the doors and replace them. So we had to buy them on our own and eat the cost of the orginal doors which was a couple thousand dollars! They also sent the wrong heated mat size and forgot to include a place for the thermostat on the wall so we had to forgo doing the heated tile floor too. But the worst part is that the poor contractor they hired is also not getting paid on time and according to his contract with them. The contractor is actually pretty good and we'd be happy to use him directly again. But he won't do anymore work with Made because of payment issues. Made took our money upfront so they have the money, but he has to fight them to get paid for every milestone sometimes not getting paid for 60 days later which means he cannot pay his subcontractors on time wither. All in all, this makes any job with Made at the bottom of a contractors list (unless they don't have any other work coming in which is a red flag.) Thus, choose a contractor and work with them directly.

Don't hire them! Our project took almost two years to complete. They couldn't find a general contractor to do the work. We had many construction mishaps. They do not vet their contractors. The first GC they sent to work on our bathroom sawed into our rafter to install a ventilation fan then ghosted the project. The second contractor they sent had to ripped out all the work of the prior contractor and in the process discovered nothing was done up to code. Made does not have strong communication with its GC's. You, the homeowner, are the project manager not MADE. Regardless of what MADE tells you, you are the project manager and you need to be on top of the project at all time. We were naive and learned too late.

Do not work with them. Save money, stress and time. It is a nightmare. We hired them and we are still waiting to finish our project. Constant delays, payments ahead of work or materials delivery, wrong materials delivered or they refuse to send materials paid. They hold an extra payment we made. Zero customer service, no response for months to our emails or calls. Worst mistake we have ever done.

Agree with all of the terrible reviews. Made is horrific and I cannot imagine they will be in business long. Our bathroom has been demolished for over 7 months with no end in sight. They just had a disagreement with our contractor (Made mismanaged funds) so the contractor is out and now they say they will find our 3rd one to finish it. It's actually absurd it's so bad. I just want all of the lost hours of my life back that I have spent dealing with them. STAY AWAY FROM MADE!!!

As others have mentioned below, please file a complaint to the California State Contractors Licensing Board (CSLB). I just spoke to them and there are multiple complaints on record and more would be helpful to their investigation. Made's license was suspended in June due to a lack of qualifier (their only licensed person of record dissociated from the company in March). They are known as Untitled Labs doing business as Made Renovation and their license number is 1058501. More information about the current complaints and pending citations are at: https://www.cslb.ca.gov/OnlineServices/CheckLicenseII/LicenseDetail.aspx?LicNum=1058501

To echo all others, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Made filed the wrong plans with our City Building Dept for someone else's bathroom. Now, we have an unpermitted bathroom.

I only discovered the permit issue when I saw that Made installed the wrong vanity, wrong tub, wrong toilet, wrong tile, wrong fixtures...the list goes on, in our home.

Inconceivable, considering we signed off on written design plans and a product purchase list.

Upon discovering Made's incompetence, I asked the contractor to stop construction while we sorted the mess out. The contractor told me that other Made accounts of his were in litigation. Not a good sign.

Made said the right items were installed in our bathroom, and they completely ignored the issue of the wrong plans being filed. This is absurd, as everything is in writing, there are SKUs on everything, and the incorrect plans are clearly on record with the City.

But Made already had our money (they make you pay everything in advance). Their very obvious strategy is to deny and ignore, hoping you'll give up. So, we hired an attorney to help us elevate our complaints. Again, Made denied and ignored.

Thankfully, there is an arbitration clause in the contract we signed. We are very confident that we will prevail when a third party arbitrator is involved. But it's very clear (look at Glassdoor or anywhere else online) that Made will go out of business, and it's just a matter of when. Hopefully, we can recoup some of our losses before then.

Years of dealing with Made and all we have is an unusable, unfinished bathroom that we already paid for, plus a race to arbitration before Made is bankrupt.

Do yourself a favor and avoid Made at all costs.

We've since learned and renovated successfully 2 of our remaining bathrooms by working with a contract designer (Fiverr or Upwork have lots of options) and a local contractor directly. So much better.
