Fruiting bodies of one of the saprophytic fungi - doesn't necessarily mean you're keeping the soil to wet or dry, or doing anything else that requires attention. It simply means that particular species of fungi finds conditions in your plant's pot to be favorable.

Plants live in harmony with thousands of fungi that present no adversity to plants, several that are advantageous to plants and with which symbiotic relationships (mutually beneficial) are formed, and a few which can be harmful. Many of the harmful fungi are covered under the umbrella of 'damping off diseases'. Looks like yours especially like the pine bark.

I forgot to mention that the "gas" you asked about is probably a cloud of dust-like spores released when the fruiting bodies are ruptured.

Unless your plant is failing, here is no compelling reason to be concerned about the fungal presence; however, if you want to get rid of them, an appropriate concentration of water and a fungicide approved as a soil drench will eliminate their presence. You should understand aforehand that applying any fungicide will jeopardize any symbiotic relationship the plant has developed with beneficial fungi which might be present in the soil. Since root systems of plants which enjoy this symbiotic relationship are usually much smaller than root systems that do not, there is significant potential that applying a fungicide to the soil when that relationship exists will render the root system unable to satisfy moisture needs of the above-ground portion of the plant. If you decide you just cannot live with the fungi in the pot, make sure you move the plant to shade and out of the wind until you can see the plant is pushing new extension growth.

FWIW, if it was my plant, I wouldn't worry about the fungi, simply because there is greater chance something might go unfavorably if you treat them than if you ignore them. I regularly notice various types of fungi growing in my plants' pots, and simply let nature take its course. So far - no adversity from following that tack. The fungi you need to worry about are generally inconspicuous.
