My view on this

While I love the table and chairs combo, I think a table like Anne dee's second photo would jive more with your kitchen cabinets. I do love mixing styles but something is off about this for me because of the very traditional looking wood cabinets and kitchen all around. I think it would be different if you had a white kitchen. If you have your heart set on the rustic table I would consider adding some rustic elements to your kitchen like black tolix stools or different pendant lights.

I say heck yes--go for a rustic table with those (very fab!) chairs!. My only hesitation with your dream table is the cabling in the picture--might interfere with legs/knees? If so, might want to look for another option

Since you compromised on the dining room, you're still coveting those chairs, huh? ;). That's okay, they are lovely. Personally I think they would look beautiful with that table in your kitchen. My biggest concern would be practicality. Didn't you mention you have a family of 5?

The pendant lights are already up on Craigslist, we just haven't found the right ones to replace them with yet. Our family room opens up to this kitchen/breakfast area which has a slight rustic feel with a stone fireplace and leather couch, so we would like to carry it through to the kitchen. Keeping a balance between the more formal cherry cabinets and the rustic is more of a challenge, but I hope with more advise like yours I can pull it off... I hope.

I see no conflict. Lori, will your chairs be covered in the same fabric shown or will you have options? I even think that the struts are inset to the very center, so no knocked knees. (but always an important consideration) Go for it!

bmwray --I got the biggest smile out of your post... and yes, I am still wanting to make those chairs work somewhere in my house! :) I'm also thinking that they can do double duty and fit around my round dining table if necessary, not wild over having 4 chairs in there but it was a set on clearence. We do have 5, so I'd at least get 6 chairs for it since the table extends from 86" to 122". Sadly, I have way more room in my breakfast area than my dining room. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

The chairs are on sale right now and at a fairly good price in the Belgian linen sand color, the picture looks a little lighter but it might be the same fabric. From my un-experienced eye it the sample of the sand color they sent me looks like a very neutral taupe that pulls out the grey in my venetian gold granite but still goes with the warm cherry wood. If I change the color, the price goes up! Are you thinking another color would be better? Forgot to mention that the backsplash is on my list to change as well, that will be another post asking for help someday! The tile color doesn't go with anything.

I have found some ideas for both chandelier and island lighting. (not sure if you are adding a chandelier. One of the island options directly relate to the struts of your VERY cool table. All of these options could work for the table or the island. Let me know your thoughts...

I really like the two bottom lights... I'd love to tie in the lighting and the iron struts. Would I be better off changing my cabinet hardware to something else as well?

You could but they are clean and simple. I don't think it is necessary. These were all found on lampsplus.com. A Great resource for affordable lighting. Fast, often free shipping and really good service. I have been doing business with them for years without a glitch. The assortment is VAST.

The only comment I have on the chairs in regard to the fabric. If you have children (or a husband like mine who "looks good in whatever he's eating"!), you might want to opt for leather chairs instead of fabric. I have 'been there, done that', for sure. And leather is so much more tolerant of spills than even Scotchguarded fabric. I know that West Elm has some great ones.

sam0705, LOVE the idea of painting the island black! Also pewter, if you do change the hardware. Laurence also brings up an important practicality consideration. That's why I was wondering about fabric options. Leather would surely make sense.

Love all of the ideas. I like the idea of painting the island black and I'm a big fan of cabinet cup pulls, this is my first home without cup pulls and I have not changed them out yet because the current hardware holes are so far apart, I can't find cup pulls that would cover them. Really like the idea of pewter hardware if the island is black. Would black hardware on the cabinets to coordinate with the iron in the table blend in too much with the cherry? I'm open to any decorating ideas.

Leather chairs would be great for a table that will be used constantly, but I have leather in my family room that opens to the breakfast/kitchen and I'm afraid there would be just too much brown. In my head, the fabric chairs break up all the wood and brown. I'll try to take a picture of the kitchen/breakfast from the family room since it is open.

Kelly --snoop away, I don't mind! That set is made by RST Outdoor Furniture and is called the Delano, Item # OP-PESS4-DEL-K. It is very comfortable and fits nicely in my rather modest screened porch. I found it for a pretty reasonable price and then had Home Depot (who carries it online) price match so that if it didn't work, I could return it to a local store (I was a little concerned buying a patio set I had never seen in person). We use it all the time! The only thing I would mention is we had to buy the rubber shelf liner to place between the bottom cushions and the outdoor wicker, the cushions kept slipping off but the liner has worked perfectly. Let me know if you have trouble finding it online.

Here is the view from the family room into the breakfast & kitchen area, the leather and wood throughout the family room is what makes me hesitant to put leather chairs around the breakfast table. I'm concerned I have too much brown already going on and the sand linen chairs will break that up a bit. I know it's not the best for a family, but wouldn't the leather overload me on the brown?

That is not a bad idea, it didn't even cross my mind to switch up the host chairs in the breakfast. I have another post on here in the discussions regarding my dining room and I have to do that in there (we bought a discontinued Artistica set with only 4 chairs but need 6). I'd love your opinion on that one too! So what would you suggest would look best for a side chair and host chairs for the benchwright table?

Since the table is so linear, perhaps something with a round back. You could also use a bench on one of the long sides and 4 side chairs. sharpkl's chair, above, is also very cool. The image I have attached illustrates a mix of finishes and fabrics in a palette compatible with yours and a mix of seating, all married to a different take on a trestle table.
