480-500 sq ft ADU

ADU for cognitively delayed (DS) adult son learning independence skills. Trying to get maximum usage ideas for 2-car garage conversation, 480-500 sq ft with 14-foot peak roof line. 1 bed, 1 bath, basic kitchen, TV area and simple loft space for possible support personnel napping area. Have found great photo ideas on houzz.com but wondering if there is someone who has done something like this already. Thank you in advance!

MY first question is do you have permission to do this and you do know garages are not made to be living space so lots of work needs to be done to bring this space up to code too.Why would support person need a napping space while at work. Is your son in a wheelchair ? A14' ceiling does not really allow for living space up top ,

Hi! Yes, I have a contractor ( remodeled the main house/earthquake upgrade). Our area of California

is pushing for ADUs. Because it is an attached garage, it will only require a design review. It will be less expensive to convert a garage than to do a new build. Yes, support would need a place to nap.
