Which entryway rug?

last modified: 4 years ago

I need a new rug for my entryway. which works best? Open to other suggestions as well! Current rug is 6x6’ round and console is 67” long. Should a rectangle rug go parallel to console?

i voted something else just to see results

I added a few more options!

I originally voted on the multi, but then remembered what usually happens to me when adding something new. (I just replaced a chair in my bedroom and subsequently had to buy lol a new rug and bedding).

So I thought that could happen to you and have suggestions (I used your console as my jumping off point). No matter what rug you choose, think about how to enhance the first impression of your home.

Recover bench/add a lumbard cushion and add prints above that work well with rug

Paint the interior of the door

This is the feeling I’m was going for, which would also tie in nicely with staircase.

It is😊 It’s so hard to tell colors and texture from pictures. Comes in 4 colors if that helps, but sage may go nicely with the console (green?) and like the design vs a medallion.

Boy, its scary just reveived info and it’s on sale. https://ruggable.com/products/sarrah-hazel-rug-two?utm_source=fb_ca_rt&utm_medium=social_paid&utm_campaign=dr_pdpvisitors&fbclid=PAAaYxS2E5w7AuHdjHi0-Eqge5y_clx2UgsGA6PYcQRUNkkWJC877u04urUfc_aem_AfU-ij4lGc55NL0_G3Znkby9LA_Ht5FJnr9-Q62F1pt2eyH8NDJo4N-LOrXXWdj4KS2qqlONYFI4Xaw5-GdMYXvqePlMusAXSC_5BW63MgaJEC11qFWBgD1dt4fjF_-j3zc&size=5x7

I may be the odd man out here but I like the round rug which echoes the mirror & top of newel post shape as well as design on front of console. Sort of a theme there. What I’d like to change is the color of the rug - to something with stronger & warmer colors. Also would add art to wall over bench, & maybe even a simple metal art piece centered between top of door & bottom of window using same metal as chandelier. Last thing is top of console - a tray or dish for a catchall for the keys & put that orchid (?) in a pretty pot.

KW any Ruggable patterns/colors stand out to you? That would be nice to be able to reuse the pad and just replace the washable piece

How about a square rug? I know it’s a weird size but I saw those when buying my current rug from Wayfair. Im not a huge fan of the round rug in your space. I don’t know why, just seems “off.” I definitely like pattern, and I like the Sarrah Hazel Ruggable colors.

@a_hopler hard to say without knowing your style. If you like the Sarrah ruggable, the sage would tie in to the green of your console. If you go square or rectangle - I prefer rectangle - it should be larger - close to length of console

My style is i have none, haha. our other rugs are persian style i think… we have a PB Reeva in one room and a ruggable Sima in our dining room. i don’t typically like a center medallion but i do like the hazel sarrah. im afraid our console might lean too teal for the sage, but i can always order both then return. I also like the multi so will give it some more thought. I will also look into re-covering the bench in a cream or beige color. I still need to style the console and add art/plants.

I like the idea if using the blue/green from the sideboard in the rug selection. Make a cohesive statement.

I'm sorry to say that I don't like any of your options. The faux over-dyed, worn-out oriental is an unfortunate fad that I hope will fade soon. And jute, while always a safe choice, doesn't make much of a statement.

The formality of an oriental suits your foyer. I think Bev's 3rd option has the perfect colours though I could wish it were less worn looking.

Beverly, do you happen to have a link to the 3rd one? i cant tell if it’s more teal or olive.

My pick is the third rug shown too!

Everdebz i like the lagoon/terra cotta one! it has some green in there for sure along with teal, and I like that there’s a coordinating hallway runner. Plus economical (i have small kids with perpetually muddy shoes). My only question is, will it be too dark with the dark console?

With this on the 'cool' side of color ?

So far, I like Lagoon the best and wouldn’t worry about distressed rugs being a passing fad, given the location and kids you’ll probably only get a few years out of it anyway.

When deciding on a rug, consider how to incorporate complementary accessories and how the overall feel will relate to adjoining rooms.

If and when budget/interest are factors, an updated chandelier would have a big impact.

I like that black one a lot! where is it from?

I like the rug size @BeverlyFLADeziner shows in her examples. No to large enough it has to go under bench & console; yes to large enough it covers a lot of floor but leaves a nice border of floor showing.

I notice a red rug. In a way, the entry needs some too!

Yes, I agree - the last one! It’s dramatic & the colors are great with floor & all the pieces in entry

Thanks so much for the help everyone! Rug ordered!! For anyone who has seen my posts before, this has been like a year in the making!

If I’m going to put a plant in the corner next to the stairs to somewhat block the vent, would you choose a (faux due to allergies) fiddle leaf fig? Banana leaf? Something else? The green cabinet isnt staying, ill be putting some artwork there i think

@a_hopler I looked at your April entry post to see what’s on the left side of that space. A hallway. I think a tallish fiddle leaf fig - i like the strong /big leaf element. I’d put the fig in a very large decorative pot with colors like what’s in the rug ypu just ordered & the console. And yes - a great piece of art on wall.

Besides the patterns and colors all suggesting, the first thought I had was the shape. The round/oval isn’t looking good. You can go for a square or a rectangle. And for other factors, a white/grey tone or the one that matches the furniture/floor can work well in the setup.
