It is WAY more work than most people want to deal with. But it can be done if you will commit to the work. Or you pay the 9-11K for a pro finisher to do it.

Here is a condo kitchen renovation that I recently completed. I stripped the existing cabinets, sanded them, applies a coat of primer and then two coats of latex paint formulated for cabinets. Finished them off with a rub-on polyurethane. So far, they hard holding up nicely.

We recently completed a kitchen refresh that included cabinet painting. Here is a link to our reveal post. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6278720/kitchen-refresh-reveal-word-photo-heavy-paint-tile-trim-floor

It can be done but the quality is 'you get what you pay for'. I voted no...because unless you can DIY, the cost to paint a GOOD quality paint job, you might want to consider new cabinets. Other determining factors...are 1. What is the condition of the existing cabinets 2. are the drawers decent..do they need new guides 3. How is the kitchen layout 4. How long do you plan to stay in the house?

Consider all of the above and decide for yourself. Get quotes on both! A good PRO paint job might be halfway or more to the cost of new cabinets, but you must love the layout and function of your kitchen.
