Lighting dilemma over island with two separate Sterling Heights

My new island and kitchen will extend into old dinning area.. Dininng room ceiling is 10ft. and kitchen 8ft. . Island will be in both ceiling heights.. Should I just stick with pot lights in kitchen ? i really wanted pendant lights . Not sure if thats possible with ceiling height differance.. pic below is old kitchen. New island will be in middle of kitchen 9 1/2 feet long .

    Two large pendants might work if symmetrical spacing allows you to mount both on the lower ceiling. Otherwise, use a horizontal chandelier, or a large, round chandelier augmented with recessed lights.
