Very tight entryway ideas?

I need your help! I’ve been in this house since 2017 and been planning to do something with the entry. I live in NY and I have an extremely small entry as you can see in photos below. I have pulled out the carpeting off the stairs but thats as far as i’ve gone. I need your ideas and suggestions on how to make this area more welcoming and open.

***this is what you see if you’re standing by the entry of the laundry room. The main entry door on the left***

So your door opens towards the stairs and probably doesn't even open 100%? How do you even get furniture inside? Another entrance somewhere? I would build an enclosed & insulated area outside of the door. Put a new front door on that area and get rid of the door here.

Post a floor plan with all openings and dimensions filled in.

There isn’t even a 3x3 landing as is code required. Get all of the stuff out of there to start. Then look at adding on a foyer to the front to remove the door and make this actually functional.

Henry M: So if opening from the inside, we would have to go a step up the stairs for the door to be able to open 100%.

Verbo: That would be the perfect solution, except right now the budget only allows minor changes. Like paint job, light fixture, new rug or floor maybe. But definitely looking at adding a foyer in the future.
