I didn't go with vinyl, but I picked the lightest standard PebbleTec finish my pool builder had which was called White Pearl. No regrets. I also like the pale blue look of the water. I do live in FL and have a screened enclosure over the pool, which helps a great deal in keeping it clean. I also went with off-white pavers to keep the overall look of the patio and pool very light and bright.

The day they "poured" the PebbleTec. They are finally installing our fire/water bowls today ... but I didn't need to hear the guy say that he was figuring it out as he went along!

I've heard that California by state law requires the interior of pools to be white for safety reasons to visualize distressed swimmers more easily. It is true that a white surface will read light blue once filled with properly treated pool water. I think white is an outstanding choice. Pool interior colors go by trends as many things do. The fake, bright blue lining has fallen out of favor, and many people these days are choosing dark blues which as a former lifeguard I hate to see due to the above-mentioned safety factors. You would be surprised how easy it is to lose sight of a swimmer you may need to rescue in water that is muddled with anything dark on the surface, be it a swim drain or colorful plaster or tile work.
