Is this a hall used to access any part of the home or is it a dead corner? I ask, because this cabinet seems to be encroaching on egress/ingress. What if there is a fire? The easiest thing is to notch the molding to slide the cabinet back, but I personally think it is a bad spot to place the furniture, and I wouldn’t do any permanent changes to anything to gain 1”.

Good question! Back to the right is access to the attic. We rarely access the attic. Typically for seasonal items/switch out.

No, not entirely. This was an empty space previously, and I thought it needed more to it. I was going to do a picture wall collage above, the cabinet.

Thoughts?

I like the idea of a picture collage on that wall. Also like the floor plants there with light from window. Less impressed with the cabinet - my first thought was why have it there in the narrow space & in a walkway that doesn’t seem to be a path to any rooms - from the pics you’re showing. The cabinet seems parked there as no place else to put it? But, the collage of photos(?) & plants on the floor warms the space yet allows easy access to window which seems the purpose of that space anyway.

@karla_cressman Just had another thought while wondering what the entirety of the space you show us looks like. That is, the space at the end, by the window, looks like it could be a cozy reading nook. A small but comfy chair, footstool, side table - a person could sit there hidden away, while reading & gazing out the window. I’m there!

I have a cozy reading nook in our loft that is pretty and never used. I do agree with KW, although the photo angles may be responsible, that the cabinet looks a bit cramped. Not horribly so and I think the gap will become invisible.

The photo wall idea sounds lovely, maybe a hanging plants or some shelved plants on the wall if you remove the cabinet, and you're good.

Appreciate all the feedback! It is somewhat an awkward space, and I don’t think quite big enough to serve as a reading book. Attached is a video as well as additional photos to help. With these cabinets, there’s approximately 23 inches from the cabinet to the railing.

It seems the consensus is the cabinets are crammed in the space. If I do without the cabinets, and just do a wall collage, will the wall collage look out of place with nothing below it?

@karla_cressman Exactly where is access to attic? Is it a pull down from ceiling steps? I’m asking because I’m stuck on a chair in that corner 😊 It is a bit tight, I now agree after seeing the additional pics. But I’m wondering about a window seat - is there room or would the attic access stairs be in the way when pulled down? Or, is that a door I see next to railing opposite the window? Is that space really narrow?

23” is really too tight for walkway, even a seldom used one. So, my vote is no furniture in walkway.

As for the gallery wall only with nothing below it - No, I don’t think it will look out of place at all. Just continue the collage to a point lower than where the top of a console table would be & use your floor plants in really nice statement pots to ”ground” the arrangement. Think about how a gallery wall looks along stairs - there’s no furniture under the pics & the entire arrangement usually covers lower points on the wall than usual art or pictures would. Your pictures will be viewable at various points for a person going up & down the stairs too

The dilemma really is…when or who will ever see the pictures?…..i am wondering if the space is visible from any where below?…if so i would use the space for an atrium of hanging plants to be viewed from below…
