shutters for cottage

I’m thinking of shutters for the windows. I need suggestions for style and color of shutters

Gorgeous cottage. I think good wide shutters on the stone portion would be beautiful. I bought really nice custom shutters from ShutterCraft in Ct. https://www.shuttercraft.com. Not inexpensive, but a solid investment. I think classic louver or panel shutters would work, although not sure where you are located.

    That stonework is beautiful!

The windows on the stone side are the only ones I can see that are suited for shutters. There’s not enough room on the other windows. So I don’t think I’d bother.

Yes I’m only adding them on that front window. Just need a style and color

Black, fully functioning, with shutter dogs. Louvered. (It looks like your front door is black.)

I’m not thinking of the dormer windows or the window under the porch

Yes the front door is black and I’d like to keep it black

If you put shutters, agree they should be functional size with shutter dogs but would have them raised panel, not louvered.

Although I usually prefer front door to be different color than shutters, think black would be good choice for color.

I don’t even know where to start. Do I find custom shutter builders in my area?

why shutters for the stone on that one window? don't think you need it

    If you must have them,

I don't think black next to all the warm brown/tan tones would be the best.

how about some wood shutters? (if you post a better pic I can do a better photoshop )

These are actually very simple to make. a local carpenter or cabinet guy could make these.

here's the black. simple shutter style

    old farm style shutter

    super easy to DIY

I like this type of shutter though (the style)

Actually, this color looks pretty good on your house. I like the window box. And I gave you more of a cottage looking front door painted the same pale aqua. it's nice w/the browns

See? like this door on this cottage. perfect for your home

surround your porch area w/potted flowers like this along w/the blue door.

If you just did a diff door, diff door color, and planted some pretty flowers in some cottage style pots, maybe sprayed your white rockers a diff color, the entire look would change! Shutters alone (especially in black) aren't going to do anything to take your cottage look up a notch!

    this DutchDoor is perfect

Here are some good blue colors. If you still want to paint the shutters a dark color, try this urbane bronze

This is adorable!! I don’t think you need shutters. Add color with landscaping, planters/flowers, furniture/pillows, etc.

Maybe that’s the route to take. So many good ideas

you have such a cute house. I'd also do something w/your porch.

look how cute this one is just by adding seom potted flowers. can you do a swing over on the right side?

Is the porch ceiling painted a 'haint blue' ? Like this one

I'd start w/that, and bring in some color to go w/your white rockers. pots w/flowers, a colorful ceramic garden stool,

maybe an outdoor rug, baskets w/plants
If you went w/the new dutch or vintage door in the blue, something like this would look perfect

    some ferns.

Those are all great inspiration photos. Yes the ceiling is haint blue. I can’t hang a swing on that end because that’s the sidewalk to the driveway. I really want a window box but hate drilling into the stone. I’ve tried setting one on the window ledge and flowers die everytime. I think the box needs to hang in order for water to dry

The cottage is actually a guest cottage behind our main house. This picture was taken from the main house. The pool and patio separate them

Thank you. She just needs some sprucing up…a little jewelry

Jewelry = flowers! Roses climbing on the trellis and BIG pots of no-care enthusiastic bloomers like marigolds or zinnias.

I have a neighbor that had an elevated planter built, and placed in front of their window (also with stone behind it). It looks very pretty and mimics the look of a window box, without having drilling into the stone. Depending on how much you have planted in the beds in front of the box, you might not even see the legs.

This is such a beautiful cottage! The stoneworks is outstanding.

And I would suggest you pick a white color for the shutters. :)

Thank you. Yes I actually like the cottage more than our main house. I tell people I bought a cottage and a house came with it 🤣. I like the idea of a raised flower box and not drilling into the stone

Devil's advocate here: no shutters. Give all that stone the love it deserves. If you are looking for a boost to the look of this gorgeous cottage there may be other things you can focus on. I defer to others with more experience. Shutters would be my last choice.

MV do you have a photo of the raised bed that mimics a window box?

Oh i love this and showing it to my handyman who can build anything. Hopefully in place for some fall flowers. Thank you!
