A Few Blooms From Recent Days

One of my favorite new seedlings is reblooming this week. It's Pink Extraordinaire X Sexy Samantha #2. Besides the rebloom, it's also the fastest multiplier of the four siblings.

Seedling X Pink Aloha was the longest bloomer in my garden this season. This seedling bloomed on a single set of scapes for about 8 weeks, with this being the last flower on Monday. Although it was very well-budded last year (24-28), this year bud counts were only in the mid-teens. I think one of the scapes with the most buds must have come up later than the rest.

Here's my photo of it from June 11 when night temps were cool. It had started blooming a day or two before that. When cool and well-hydrated, it's very much a rose pink. When temps are in the 90s and the soil is dryer, the color is a warm medium pink.

Raven's Song is reblooming. I got this last year as a single fan and it struggled this year. I think grubs may have gotten to it in the Spring. I didn't get a picture of the first few blooms - I think it only had 3 buds - because it was so short (scape only 8 inches). The rebloom scape is the same height with four buds. I hope it survives because I'd like to hybridize with it.

Lightning Round on rebloom continues to be the prettiest flower in the garden.

September Flame, a very late bloomer from Woodhenge Gardens, is the last of my lates to bloom. It started over the weekend.

I really like your seedlings, especially Pink Extraordinaire seedling. Raven's Song is lovely, I hope it does better for you next year. Lightning Round is Gorgeous white, it would really set Raven's Song off nicely.

Nancy - Thanks for your comments! Lightning Round is planted far away from Raven's Song, but I agree they would look good together.

The first seedling is wonderful! I can see why it is a favorite. Lightning Round is indeed pretty. Raven’s Song looks like it could help you make more striking kids!!!

The Pink Aloha seedling is my favorite, a surprise every day with the temperatures…..I like both photos. September Flame is a great addition for the late garden.

The form and edging on the Pink Aloha seedling is just wonderful. Any clue on how hardy it is? Unfortunately none of the Buntyns have proven to be hardy with my pot system.......And may I say ditto on Lightning Round. It is as you said one of the prettiest. It's the form for me. Like Pink Aloha but not pink. I see it's another Pierce Sev though..............Maryl

Maryl - The Pink Aloha seedling is pretty hardy. It survived a winter in a plastic cup when about 60 other seedlings died. I'm not sure if it's semi-evergreen or dormant. I'll have to find out for sure before I registere it. The plant does lose its foliage every year whether winters are mild or harsh. Pink Aloha performs as an evergreen here and keeps the foliage year-round.

Kate - Thanks so much for you comments on the first seedling! I'm excited to see how it does next year. It's already gone from one fan to three this year. The siblings have gone from one to two.

Sherry - I'm glad you like the pink seedling. Last year it had some instant rebloom. Maybe it will rebloom later now that we're having some rain every week.

Your seedlings are so pretty! You know I love the pink one, but the purple one takes my eye today. I love the big watermark and the extravagant ruffle. With rebloom and good increase, it sounds like a winner.

We planted September Flame last season, but our garden is such a mess right now I don't know if it is alive (it's covered in weeds). We enjoy some of those diploid lates. We have Cayenne and Carol Sing blooming now, but I haven't gotten a photo of either.

The #2 Pink Extraordinaire is definitely appealing. How is the plant habit? Cexy Samantha did not have good scape when I saw it, but the flower was fetching, to say the least. By the way, I see that you successfully used the "s" word.

Mantis - The Pink Extraordinaire seedling is a first year bloomer. You can't tell much about the plant habit until you've grown them more years. Also, with the lack of rain in May in June, no stats would be relevant. Here Cexy Samantha has a much better scape than Pink Extraordinaire. It usually always has more than the 15 buds registered, but not this year. It is just top-branched, but that doesn't bother me.

Nan - Thanks for the comments on my purple seedling. Parts of my garden are a mess too. During those many, many days in the high 90s, I could not stand to weed for long and I have weedy, tall grasses growing everywhere. I'm hoping with cooler temps and no humidity tomorrow and Saturday I can make headway cleaning them out.

Pink Extraordinaire X Sexy Samantha #2 is gorgeous. Seedling X Pink Aloha is really a pretty one in either picture. September Flame and Raven's Song are very pretty and both late blooms and reblooms are nice to have. Lightning Round is a lovely white and appears to be white unlike many.
