I'd try a brighter bulb (prefereable LED) in the overhead light, and it's also possible that the fixture itself is dirty or dusty, thus cutting the light. That would help with when you need general lighting, such as when you're cleaning, etc. But for more pleasant bedroom lighting, I'd do bedside lamps, floor lamps, or sconces.

I'd change out the fixture to a Semi-flush, a bit larger than the one you have. The light will shine UP and down for a better coverage. Ambient light in Table lamps or a floor lamp.

I like to think that every room need 3 points of light, whether artificial or natural.

A mirror opposit the window could help, adding a natural reflections of light during the day.

if you are adding an accent paint color, I'd only paint the wall with the window Paint the rest whiite, or the lighest shade of the color you are choosing. Congratulations on your new digs!

We like to advocate for as much natural light coming in as possible. It's more energy efficient and we feel it helps to improve your mood (compared to being in a dark room). That being said, we do have some ideas on how to keep natural light flowing in, from sheer banded shades to solar shades (both allow a lot of lights to come in). Message us for more ideas!
