Gap between countertop and wall?

I had my quartzite countertops installed in my remodeled kitchen on brand new cabinets. On the free edge of my counter, the installers were unable to get the counter close to the wall and left a 1/4” inch gap that maintains for several feet before tapering back up to the wall. They filled the gap with caulk. I feel the 1/4” gap is quite significant, but the installers say that up to 1/4” is considered the “industry standard” and they’re going to charge me $250 “trip charge” if I want them to come out and see if they can do anything about it. I was hoping to get away with just painting my walls and doing a tile backsplash later, but I now feel forced into doing it sooner. Add the fact that the free edge will always look strange being so far from the wall. It honestly looks shoddily done in my opinion and I can’t stand seeing caulk just gobbed on at the edge.

So is 1/4” normal and I’m being too picky? Or is this actually an industry standard?
