To answer your original question, I believe the best option is to leave the clippings on the yard. The clippings will decompose releasing the nutrients they use to grow back into the soil.

I can not tell from the pictures but unless your yard is a century old yard, the clipping will help build a better soil in the long term. If it is century old yard, you may need to dethatch occasionally, I would use the thatch as mulch some where else in the yard.

In my yard I use the old slogan "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas." OR my version "what grows in my yard stays in my yard" Any thing that grows in the yard is returned to the yard and flower beds. Limbs are chipped up, and used as mulch. Leaves also become mulch. If there is a bare spot in the yard the they are lightly mulch. until they are capable of growing grass. (Some areas I am still waiting ;-)

As I said grass clipping are left on the yard. When I mow, I blow the grass cuttings into the uncut area. By the time the yard is mowed, I can run the mower over the grass clippings which are in a nice row in the middle of the yard and they disappear.

Waste from the flower garden is treated similar. Light flower cutting as weeds are put on the yard and run over with the lawn mower as I mow the grass. The woody items in the flower bed are treated like the debris from the trees, chipped and used as mulch
