It’s not clear what the dimensions are. 13’ x ?

What other rooms are nearby? Will this room be near the family entry to the house so you could use closet space for winter coats and boots? Near the kitchen so a deep freeze or extra fridge would be handy? Is someone in the house proficient with a sewing machine and a sewing center with ironing board would be nice? Or a crafter or scrapbooker or artist or quilter?

Where in the house are cleaning supplies (vacuum/mops) stored? Extra paper goods like paper towels and toilet paper? Large economy size bags of dog food? Dog/cat beds and the litter box? Luggage? Christmas decorations? Insulated coolers and picnic supplies?

For sure use it for extra storage and have it all done in the construction. Combine a mudroom, laundry, storage...think seasonal for storage.

I have no clue what the issue is . Is this a new build? Are you renovating? We need more info for sure .

Show the entire first floor plan or wherever this laundry is located. Add how many in the family, how often you do laundry. What appliances do you plan? Top load, front load. What's your climate?

Nothing exists in a vacuum. Not even a laundry

Coat and shoe storage, cleaning supplies and vacuums/brooms/mops, butlers pantry, craft room/gift wrapping station, throw money at it building in custom cabinets for anything that might need an out of the way home, make it the organizational-cleaning command center of the home.

I had a large laundry room in my last house. Size ? I loved it. It had 2 washers, 1 dryer, stationary tub, chest of drawers, shelves for separating clothes. Small table and a large table for crafts and the ironing board.

The question is, What do you need? Would you use an exercise room? Would a home office be useful? Would you craft more if you had a dedicated spot? Do you need plain old storage?

Start with a good assessment of your own needs.

So I am one that does not think a huge laundry room is a good use of space but no info from you gets no help from us.

You might if you had four kids in a house, and they all played sports????

Hello everyone, thank you all for answers. I am new here and was not sure how this works. Here are my answers:

• this is a new build
• 4 in the family
• we do laundry almost every day
• the dimensions of the room: 4m2 x 5m2
• the room is in first floor, left is a kid’s room, right is master bedroom with wardrobe
• nobody in the family is a crafter, artist etc. we are all very much into sports
• we have one storage downstairs, but will also use this space for cleaning supplies, mops, vacuum etc (but not for example luggage, christmas decoration..because we have enough space in other room for this)

Add a closet for the vacuum, broom, cleaning supplies. Make sure you have someplace to hang things to dry. A counter for folding is useful, as is a place to store laundry baskets.

I would add a sink too. Sounds like the space will be put to good use.

That size laundry room would not be too big in my house!!! I'd love it!

How about putting closets on either side as you walk into the room. They could hold your mops, brooms, floor steamer, ironing board, cleaning supplies, etc. Or you could use one of the closets for linens.

Here are some ideas:

You definitely need a sink, cabinet space, and hanging/folding areas. I use a couple of my cabinets to store floral vases and flower arrangement supplies.
